Recommendations for 10/22 optics for the Koko Head Silhouette Range (Read 5659 times)

Afternoon All,

I'm going to be buying a 10/22 soon so I can do some plinking on the Silhouette side.  For this specific range at Koko Head, I wanted to see what kinds of recommendations you guys have in terms of optics (scope, red dot, or just going with plain irons) for this purpose.  I'm a total noob when it comes to optics so any info would be helpful.

Also if a scope is recommended, would this stock one that comes with the 10/22 (https://ruger.com/products/1022Carbine/specSheets/21194.html) be any good?  I heard they have this at SEC for like $315.

Mahalo in advance!

Tell us about your 10/22 - regular, take-down, target, etc.  This will help people make recommendations.  I use a Nikon 2-7 on my target 10/22.

I have this on my bolt action. Works great on the silhouette side.

Midway has a Nikon 3-9x40 Prostaff Rimfire II BDC for $89.00 and $108 shipped. I bought one and it’s clear and well made. The parallax is set to 50 yards. Only thing some folks might not like is the reticle is wire Vs etched in the glass. Being it’s a 22 there is nothing to worry about since etched reticles are something that has been around for only about 10-15 years. Before that reticles were wire and installed on high recoiling rifles with no probs. Good luck....

Adjustable objective did wonders for me.

.22 calibrated works well too though. (50 yd parallax) my daughter likes that set up. And it's lighter.

Thanks for the recommendations so far all!

Fairly sure I'm just getting the synthetic carbine model, don't need a takedown for the bug out bag yet.

I think my buddy has that same Nikon on his 10/22 Takedown.  To me, very nice scope for the money.  3-9 good magnification for the silhouette range and the various small metal targets.  I think 2-7 or around there would be "good enough" too, but if one wanted to shoot for groups at 50 and 100 yards, I think the 3-9 is a good power range.  If I eventually get a bolt action 22, I think I'll get that same scope or a Vortex in the 3-9 power range.

Nikon is one of my favs for a good quality economy scope, 2-7 or 3-9 are a good choice. I prefer a scope with an adjustable objective, but it is my preference and not necessary for what you want to do with the rifle.

All of the recommendations made here are good for what you want to do with it.

I have a Ultralight Leupold 3-9x on my 10-22 Takedown. It's mounted on a Tactical Solutions 20moa rail.  I primarily use for 100yd plinking on the rifle side.

Nikon P22  2-7x, Sightron 3-9x32 RF are what I use for 50-yd target shooting. You want something for plinking on the silhouette range. Either of those works fine without busting the bank. For my 10/22 takedown w/ Magpul stock, I use a UTG 3-9x Bugbuster. Small enough to fit in the front  compartment of the shoulder bag I use to carry the gun, mags and ammo.

Red dot is fine for the silhouette range. I put a vortex sparc on my 10/22 and can nail any target at all 3 distances. It is a little more challenging than a magnified optic but more fun to me.
