Interesting 9mm ammo malfunction
So I had a problem this weekend that I have never even heard of before.

I bought a Beretta 92s and took it to the range for the first time Saturday. It was used, looked to be in good shape, but I was prepared to have some issues. (The mag springs felt soft, ext.)

Load a magazine with 124 grain PPU NATO.

Fire 7 rounds, and have a FTF on the 8th round.

Ok. Must be a mag issue I think to myself. Drop the mag, clear, insert new mag and... FTF.

Repeat this a few more times, then attempt to load a round by hand, and none of them will chamber.

Take the gun apart, and rounds will not even seat in the barrel.

I go home and start looking everything over. Chamber a snap cap no problem... ok must be the length of the 124 grain bullet...

The chamber looks like it has a buildup of copper at the throat of the rifling. Ah, there's my problem. The barrel looks new, but maybe not?

So I start cleaning the barrel, and notice it is extremely tight at the throat of the rifling. After fiddling with it for a long time and looking it over with a bore light I realize that a jacket has ripped off a projectile and has gotten stick between the chamber and rifling.

I go to Ace Hardware Sunday and buy a wooden dowel, and I was able to beat the jacket out with a hammer.

Took the gun back to the range and put about 120 rounds through it with no problem.

Seems to be a failure of the ammo.

I have sent Privi Partizan an email and am awaiting a response.

Here is a picture of the jacket on the dowel rod.

I attached. The rest of the thread is from the community saying they've never seen a head separated case stuck in the barrel like that before. He said it's the jacket of the bullet but that doesn't seem right.

On a side note, it looks like Photobucket has decided to give our photos back. It's nice to see the old range photos I abandoned. Imgur seems to be working great so far, so will stick with that.

It's the jacket of the bullet head.

I’ve experienced similar issues with poorly plated heads. I prefer jacketed heads for just this reason.

What's the KHSC policy on using depleted uranium?
