Bushmaster XM15-E2S - removing the front sight post
« on: April 06, 2012, 10:06:06 AM »
For anyone that has experience with Bushmasters or specifically the XM15-E2S, is the barrel bare metal underneath the FSP, or is it parkerized? If it is bare metal, how do I preserve it from rusting? Hit it with spray paint? Hope the new gas block is big enough to cover the two areas?

I intend to remove the front sight post, put on a low profile gas block, and stick a longer handguard on there.

Bushmaster barrels are finished before assembly, so they are not bare metal. BUT that's fresh out of the factory...I've pulled FSP's off older well used ones to find that the finish is worn down a bit (not a big deal). You can use Krylon or cold blue if it's going to bother you.

An alternative would be to cut down your current FSP if your new handguard is going to cover it up.

Thanks for the help guys! I thought I may have read at one point that Bushmaster in particular phosphates their barrels AFTER installing the FSP. Good to hear that they hit it before.

Thanks guys!
