Should the State assist the effected residence with creating a replacement community? Kinda reminds me of the old settlement deals of the 19th century.

I think the County has partial responsibility with all the taxes they collected when they blessed off on that development in the 50s.

Saw a woman on the news complaining how she couldn't insure her home, and that kept her from getting loans on the property.

Maybe the lenders and insurance companies were sending her a signal.

She sunk all her money into the place.  Her choice.  Why do people who make bad decisions with no financial reserves require tax payers to  bail them out? This was not an unforeseeable event.

I lost some cash in Vegas and my mortgage is due. Can I get financial assistance, too?

Relatedly, I heard that one of the problems they had with figuring out how many buildings were destroyed by lava is the number of unpermitted buildings in the development, and they have to rely on satellite images.
