Dual owner registration
« on: July 15, 2018, 12:44:23 PM »
Tomorrow I start the process to get the wife on the registration for all my firearms. We'll be applying for her long gun permit with her and $42.00 in tow. After 2 weeks and if the app is approved we’ll start moving all the long guns to get co-ownership on the registration. My understanding of the process is we both must have active long gun permits, bring the long guns and the registration paperwork in so the gestapo can do their registration thing and issue new registrations.

Handguns are a different ball game. This missus has already attended a handgun safety course and received her paperwork about 8 years ago so we’re good to go there after the rifle exercise is finished.

Am I missing anything?

We went thru this a few years back, after a health scare. Serious PITA.

Why not do all the permit apps in one trip?  Saves your time and gas.  I don't know how many firearms you have, but once the long gun and pistol permits come back, you could do the pistols first, then take your time with the long guns.  HPD will only have to do one background check versus multiples.  It'll reduce the work for HPD, which might buy you some good will through the process.

Since you can lend long guns, there's really no hurry on dual-registering those.

Just a suggestion.

I must’ve missed something. The last gun I registered I asked if they needed to put my wife on it too. The officers told me since we’re legally married I don’t need to. Was the officers wrong?

Its illegal for anyone to possess ur pistol without u there. So if u leave the home and the wife has to use it...or the wife goes to the range without u.

Long guns, u can let anyone borrow for 15 days.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don’t trust them. They talk out of both sides of their mouth. Gonna go the safe route....

Thanks for the advice. I don’t mind making them work for once though! Anyway I’ve got 15 pistols and I’m not ready compiling all the info for them....

If you have all the current registrations, what more info do they need from you?

Yup I know. A friend of mine passed about 10 years ago and he asked me before he died to help his wife with all the paperwork and transport to HPD so she could get them transferred to her name then sell them at the next gun show. Took us a month of 2 trips per week to get all the long guns and pistols transferred and HPD were total buttholes about it. We tried talking to them prior about maybe hiring an aff duty officer ( would have paid him or make a hefty donation to one of their causes) to work with recording all the info in the back of the firearms branch to make things easier for everyone. They outright refused! We had three tables piled high with various ammo AND 5 tables full of his firearms. When the both days were done she got about $20K........

I'd make sure to double-check the info on the registration forms for each weapon.

One of my registrations says I have a very rare Semi-auto Mosin-Nagant 91/30.
