Man in the High Castle
« on: July 16, 2018, 08:49:59 AM »
There was nothing on TV last night so I streamed Amazon Prime.  It's an interesting concept.

What would have happened if we lost WWII?

Basically good by Bill of Rights.  But the author did do their homework for things that should/didn't happen.

***SPOILER ALERT

-Empire of Japan took over west coast
-3rd Reich took over mid/east coast
-Executions/torture for going against the government (Japs & Nazis).
-No due proccess
-Japs not as technology advanced vs. Nazis.  General Douglas McArthur never sent our top scientist over to Japan to help them rebuild because we lost.
-Younger generations doesn't know what a "free America" was like, only heard stories from parents
-Eventual war between Japs & Nazis for total control of N. America
-Hitler still alive, but Goebl and Himmler waiting for him to die to take control

Only on 4th episode.

I'm a fan, patiently waiting for season 3.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

Not sure what’s taking so long.

In reality, even if the USA lost the war, the USA is too big in land area and population to be occupied by another country or countries.  Then we also have the millions of guns and billions of rounds of ammo in the hands of civilians.

In the world of "The Man in the High Tower" the Nazi's won the technology race and nuked Washington, obliterating the US's command structure.  If I'm not mistaken they continued nuking the US until the we surrendered, just like we did with Japan.  Why argue the details when you can just enjoy a great show ;-).  It's not simply a "If the Nazi's and Japan won" scenario, there's also some quirky mystical stuff going on.

I doubt they could've held the US and the world for long.  They would've been stretched too thin by occupying most of the world.  Supply lines, manpower, resources, etc.  If they ruled with an iron fist and put everyone in poverty then the world would rebel.

Large empires like this don't last long in history.

I just got to season 2 and watched that episode last night.  Good thing I didn't go on 2a prior to.  Spoiler.

The "films" are kind of ruining it for me because they don't got the tech to make them look so real.  But the trade ministers meditation makes way more sense compared to the films.

Actually met Tagawa once.  And asked him how he got started.  He said he was a henchman in Big Trouble in Little China.  There was a scene where all the henchmen were all smiling.  The director yelled cut and said "you jerks need to stop smiling, you're god damn bad guys".  Then he pointed to Tagawa and said " you all need to look like him".  He wasn't smiling at all (mean looking).  That's how he got noticed and everything took off from there.

Fixed.  New to the show and sort of forgot the title.  Just finished season II.  Can't wait for season 3.

I like it.  Terrible but interesting concept that I'm VERY glad did not happen.  Only thing bothering me is that it's starting to get a little "weird."  Am I right?  But yes, very excited to see more of it!

Stopped watching through season 1. Do we ever get to find out the origin of the reel film? I couldn't figure out what the point of the show was so lost interest. PKD stories are usually about not knowing what is real or fake like Total Recall and Minority Report.

Here's an interesting article from when the series first started.

The films are not really a main point to the story, until the final episode of season 2. Then it becomes useful. Dont want to spoil it.
