As a convicted felon, the suspect was not legally allowed to have a gun.

OK. So how did this happen. He broke many laws but still had a shotgun. We are already in a "wild wild west" except criminals once again are armed while lawful citizens are stripped of their rights to protect themselves

No, but as a convicted felon you can have an illegally obtained one as well as the right to cc if you so desire because laws don't apply to you.
No waiting period, no background check, no NFA restrictions, freedom to cc or oc.....ahh, life is good.

The Supreme Court says felons and others prohibited from possessing guns are protected from registration under the 5th Amendment.  Registering would be  announcing to the state you are breaking the law.

I wonder if the same logic applies to Concealed Carry -- if you aren't legally allowed to possess a gun, they can't make you apply for a permit to carry it, right?

But but but.....he had a good heart and never bothered nobody.  He was just misunderstood.

Legislation should never be about depriving law abiding citizens of something, but rather taking those things away from criminals.

If all firearms were crushed under a steam roller, then there wouldn't Be any firearms for the criminals to steal. Oh wait, 2nd Amendment...
