Thoughts on a sonic cleaner for rifle parts or hand guns?
« on: July 28, 2018, 09:19:24 AM »
I’m thinking of getting a sonic cleaner. Like the one from Hornady. Mostly to clean rifle uppers like after every 3rd trip out. With normal barrel cleanings after every trips. Occasionally lowers. And pistols too. Any up’s and down sides with sonic cleaners? Is it worth it?

Well with the barriel on too. I meant like the whole upper with barrel on. US clean every 3rd trips. But I’ll still do the usual barrel cleanin with after every trip. Just not in the US cleaner all the time..

Make sure the US cleaner is big enough to hold the parts you want to clean. Most of them vary in size. I have the RCBS US cleaner. It is pretty good size for an US cleaner. It is easy to change the solution. It has heat and can be run for up to 30 minutes at a time. It works well for me. Make sure you use the proper cleaning solution type for the parts you are cleaning.

Don't dip an AR lower in it.

Isn't a sonic cleaner kind of a bit too much?  I just use q tips, rags, and gun cleaner/oil on all my pistols, rifles, shotguns, full autos, and even suppressors.  Always been good enough for me, clean, accurate, and goes bang, or am I not doing enough here?

I always worry about the metal rusting after being submerged in the bath. Need to oil it right away after taking the parts out.

I figured just blow it dry with a compressor. Then grease/ lube parts.
