Right before deploying to Kuwait in preparation of the invasion of Iraq, Jeff Kirkham, had the opportunity to do the first non-bias “official” testing on the AK-47 for the Department of Defense (DOD) and Special Operations Command (SOCOM).

I enjoyed this video about the AK.  I like that they did testing to "see for themselves" about the performance aspects of the AK and really tried to understand the firearm.  Then formed opinions based on that first hand testing and experience. 

Regarding the reload, I was taught different, but I can see his point about modern guns having other stuff in the way.  Still something I'll have to continue to try and see for myself.  I'm ok with the "going under" to charge the rifle, but I am always open to other ways.

The beginning reminds me of how the military was dicking around with the M16 in Alaska.  It was sent there for cold winter testing.  The rifles didn't shoot straight, so the report said they failed in cold environments.  Eugene Stoner flew to Alaska and found out the sights were set wrong.   After that no issues.

Yeah that’s what I read too. Ordinance tried to sabotage the M16 because the M14 lost.
