I am sure you understand that the individual that you are quoting belonged to a questionable administration and is no longer with HPD.  He was also not well received by other admin and the guys and gals on the street.  Don't think that his views were a reflection of all.

people are under some sort of misguided impression that the police are there to protect you.  They are not your body guards, and will not protect you unless they happen to witness someone attacking you.  The rich and powerful have body guards, you are responsible for your own safety and self defense, even if you're stripped of your 2nd amendment rights. 

Police are 'law enforcement" officers.  After you are stabbed, beaten, raped, robbed, killed, they will show up.  Depending on the circumstance, they may write up a cute report and send you on your way or attempt to catch the criminal that assaulted (past tense) you.

Yup exactly. I was being sarcastic. Our government, both feds, state and C&C, whittle away at our 2a rights, leaving us with little to no means to protect ourselves. When I broach this very subject with my HPD LEO nephew he clams up and ignores the subject. Any subject or discussion that has to do with HPD is met with the same response. The “blue code of silence” at its finest! Oh well. Like I’ve told him and others; I will arm myself and use deadly force if needed. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. I’ve lost a lot of respect for HPD.

Police identified Midel as the same man who allegedly wielded a knife inside a Ross Dress for Less store in Kaneohe.

According to a police spokeswoman: "Officers transported the suspect to a hospital for a mental health evaluation
but did not arrest him after Wednesday’s incident.  The department is currently looking into the incident
to ensure that departmental procedures were followed."

Maybe, HPD could have actually charged the man for wielding a knife in the Ross store?  That could have been reason enough to kick him out of the YMCA, too.

Without charges, and without the mental health evaluator detaining him, they basically let a man back out in public who is demonstrating violent behavior.

Well, at least SOME people are outraged. Who knows, maybe even most people are outraged? The problem is, outraged or not, they keep voting for the same progressives (aka Democrats) who appoint the same kind of judges who keep allowing these criminals to repeatedly harm innocent people. No amount of outrage will overcome the political reality that the vast majority of people here love the progressives and what they stand for and deliver. Including allowing criminals to repeatedly prey on the innocent. Disgusting. I'm outraged.

Unfortunately yes.  So many with the "it can't happen to me" mentality.  Well, if these types of things happen to you/someone, you may not have the opportunity to learn from that mistake. 

Books from G. Michael Hopf integrates that kind of thinking in to the story.  I mean I'm not the most prepared, but at least I'm not blind or naive enough to leave my well being and that of loved ones to the comforting feeling of "it will never happen".

This probably belongs in the political section.
Our problem is not enough people vote.  We have horrible voter turnout.
Union people crank out votes that the few rest of us cannot defeat.
The minority in this state runs this state.
There are not enough people in this state to generate much
outside interest in destroying the single party problem we have.
Our best bet is to get a more constructionist court system and to
overturn the un-constitutional laws we have to live under.
eg Young v Hawaii.

A lot of it has to do with the votes politicians need.    Politicians dont want to look bad putting people in prison and building jails, forcing crazies to get treatment or keeping them away from the public, or being hard on the homless.  Its easier for them to pick on law abiding gun owners.

It seems as if spending all that time last session with the legislators and their staff members hasn't really inspired you with great confidence in the motives of our "public servants".
