Of course they did. That would be the Maui Liquor commission.
Arbitrary and capricious to the max :D
Glad I don't have to deal with them any more.

They finally posted the minutes of that meeting.

https://www.mauicounty.gov/ArchiveCenter/ViewFile/Item/25441

The discussion re the firearms at the Friends of NRA dinner auction begins on page 45, and rambles on for over 30 pages of the most idiotic stupidity ever recorded. You'd have to actually read it to believe it. I read it, and I still can't believe it's real. It's like a really poorly written parody it's so stupid. You've got the self-described "most right wing person on Maui" and a total FUDD who owns shotguns and approved of the Ducks Unlimited auctions with shotguns present, etc. who oppose the NRA auction because "arsenal", "danger to society" and on and on and on. Unfuckingbelievable. Good grief. OMG! Etc.

Noticed they threw in the AR-15 in there. Surprised they didn't say "assault rifle".

I think they went way broader than that with this:

COMMISSIONER TODD [the self-described "most right wing person on Maui"  :rofl:]:
I would include the knives, yeah. I see no point in taking materiel for warfare and putting it in the middle of lovely Maui County for some nut to come harm all the safe people? What is the point of this?

* * * * *
I wanna see those pics of the knives of warfare!

Overreach by the liquor commission, the inoperable guns have nothing to do with serving alcohol.  Theft or robbery is not in their jurisdiction.

Also the police have to understand that people are responsible for themselves.  Its the group organizers that are in charge of planning and setting up security.

Thats what happens when government officials go unchecked, abuse of power.

I called and wrote to the organizers to see if they needed help overcoming this problem, but they didnt get back to me.  Going to happen next year too unless they deal with the problem.

I envision proposed legislation in the not-too-distant future banning firearms from firearms stores... only allowing photos and videos of firearms, for the same reasons cited by the Liquor Commission geniuses: weapons of warfare could be stolen from the stores. If people can find out about an NRA auction/dinner and thus plan a robbery (at the venue or of the delivery vehicles to or from the venue), surely they know those delivery vehicles stopping at the gun stores have guns in them... and the stores themselves, of course. No one needs to see an actual gun to buy a gun! If it's the wrong size and doesn't fit your hand just send it back like with shoes on Amazon!
