So I take our trash cans for my apt and the one across the street out.  Last night I saw in the trash can a SIG P320 manual.  So I know someone across the street just bought a SIG.

Bums dig in the trash all the time and might now know who owns what.

This is why all my gun/tactical trash, I take to work and throw in the dumpster.  I don't want bums to know what I got.  I know who's armed on my side of my apartment building and never seen any gun trash in our cans.  But across the street I had no idea until now.

The bums rip open the trash bags looking for stuff.  So many times the contents will fall out and blow in the wind.  And really nothing you can do but tell them to stop if you catch them in the act.  But once you leave or close your door, they come back.

1.  You can't be sure if that P320 was purchased recently or years ago unless there's a date or some other clue printed in the manual.  I would imagine owners keep the manuals for at least awhile after purchase.

2.  You can't be sure if the weapon still resides there.  Person tossing the manual could be a new renter/divorced spouse throwing out papers the previous renter/relocated ex-spouse left behind.

... etc ...

Too many possibilities to assume someone just bought a new pistol.

1) Someone walking by could have dropped the manual and someone else picked it up and tossed it in the nearest trash can.

2) Someone who doesn't live there could have used our trash can because they don't want bums finding it in theirs.

The point is be careful of what you toss in your trash.  Because crackheads look in the trash and case properties.  Maybe if you live in a nice area, not much to worry about.  But in my area, I've seen chronics hanging on the sidewalk watching people leave.  They could have also not been casing, but just hanging out and admiring the paint on the walls/doors.

I have a shredder at home, but it's the one that cuts into vertical strips.  Then I heard about people who collected them and then pieced the strips together to look for information to steal your identity.  If people spent that time toward something legit productive, we'd all be much better off.

There was a post on SSH and a pic of a dude dumpster diving and he had a hand full of shredded paper.  It wasn't diamond cut.  So IDK if he got around to piecing it together.

I did watch on Nat Geo that when smoking meth, you get real OCD.  So taking the time to piece something like that together is a possibility.  The guy they interviewed lived at home and when he smokes, he does yard work for 8 hours straight.  If 1 leaf falls on the grass, he will go to it and pick it up. So besides his habit, his mom has an amazing yard.

We don't have trash pickup on the BI, so I burn all my paper in a commercially made burn barrel and use the ash in the garden.  Other stuff I bag and take to the transfer station.
