Can we have these here? As long as its not semi auto, and the mag is not detachable would this be legal? :shaka:

If it's bolt action IMHO it would just follow the rules of any pistol in Hawaii.  I think by definition it would not be an "assault pistol" in Hawaii.

I don't know what a "bolt action AR pistol" is.

If you mean a bolt action pistol chambered in 5.56/.223 then yes it is legal.

If you mean an AR pistol then no.

If you mean some type of hybrid that utilizes a bolt action but is in every other aspect an AR pistol then I've never seen one of those.

Do they exist?

I was thinking something like this

http://www.quarterbore.com/ar15m16/postbanar15pistol.htm

From my understanding, if the gas block is removed from the upper you would manually have to charge every round. And if tools are required to remove the mag, or if i weld a mag into the magwell itd be considered permanent. So this techincally shouldnt be considered an evil AP right?

"Assault pistol" means a semiautomatic pistol which accepts a detachable magazine and which has two or more of the following characteristics:
     (1)  An ammunition magazine which attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;
     (2)  A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward hand grip, or silencer;
     (3)  A shroud which is attached to or partially or completely encircles the barrel and which permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the second hand without being burned;
     (4)  A manufactured weight of fifty ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded;
     (5)  A centerfire pistol with an overall length of twelve inches or more; or
     (6)  It is a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm;

Just make sure it doesn't have two or more of these characteristics. My guess is that it will be more than 12" and 50 oz.

Oh yeah, the shroud too.

Thanks for the replys guys,Im almost done completing my first 80% lower right now so im just throwing ideas out there.  If i weld a plate over the magwell,it shouldnt fall into the AP category anymore right, because it can now only be operated only as a single shot pistol.

Some how I didn't realize this would be a single shot.

Sure, you SHOULD be good to go legally, but you still might get hassles because it may be seen to others as a semi.

Good luck either way.

I'm moving to Hawaii next year, the law referring to the description Of an AR pistol sounds a lot like the CA law. Why doesn't the bullet button work out there for you guys?

The only reason is no one has tested it out. The AG also hasn't issued an opinion on it. Technically you should be good to go, but if you want to test it, it may cost you a lot in legal fees.

Actually as it specifically relates to the AR pistol, this law looks like it is meant FOR the AR pistol. It would be pretty difficult to get you under two of those features.
