Rapback - Not Buying Firearms?
« on: October 31, 2018, 09:07:32 AM »
Just wondering how many of you are still not buying any firearms due to rapback??

I have the urge to buy a couple more guns to round out my toolbox but am still on the fence about putting my name in that registry. But on the other hand, I feel sorely open/vulnerable without the next 2-3 guns I feel like I need to buy. You all think it's worth it to just get in rapback and at least have the tools?

I was on a popular, national forum and people were suggesting I just build an AR15 but again, I'd have to register the lower asap once it's milled out. Plus the Lord knows I can barely build a tower of legos, let alone inscribe a serial # onto such lower. I looked it up but damn it looks complicated. I pretty much feel like it's rapback time.

It's a personal choice.  When I bought my 1st gun, RAPBACK was already in force.  So I didn't have a choice.

HPD does already have your name on a list (registration of all guns in Hawaii), if that helps.

It's not about being on a list. It's about being treated differently than other citizens just because we choose to exercise a Constitutional Right.

It's a mechanism to report any and all contact with law enforcement nationwide to HPD.  How they will use that information is not being publicly made available.  They could potentially take your guns if you get a DUI in another state even before you have the chance to fight the charge in court.  Same situation for any charges.  How is that going to improve public safety?

I'd be more accepting if the information remained with the FBI, and they took action if the contact involved behavior that warranted confiscation of guns. For instance, if the person was involved in domestic violence at his ex-wife's home in another state.  Giving HPD that information to act on doesn't give me a warm fuzzy.

The FBI runs NICS and approves background checks for purchases. The FBI runs the new biometric system of which RAPBACK is part.  Shouldn't the federal rules regarding firearms be enforced by the feds -- FBI or ATF?  Simply sharing info from one local PD to another doesn't sound like the Feds are using the information as they should.

I haven't bought anything since Rapback started, but I would if something came about that I REALLY wanted.  I ended up buying stuff just before the 2016 election in anticipation of more gun control is HRC won, so I sort of covered a lot of my "gun wants" there.  I've also gone through some stuff recently where even thinking about buying guns wasn't really on my radar.  However, lately, I have been looking at a handgun or two that have tempted me.

We've had this discussion a bunch here and I've had the same with other gun friends.  I've abstained mostly based on principle.  I don't see it as me "letting gun control win" by not having got new guns since then because I had gotten most of what I want/need ahead of that.

no flippin way.

I went through the steps of getting a CHL and a C&R FFL in oregon only to have the state legislature secretly kill the C&R FFL.  I have no interest in either registering a firearm or going through all their hoops only to be labelled a potential criminal just to exercise a constitutional right.   I have no doubts that they will use any of that data to punish gun owners in some way down the line.

Me?  no of course not.  I could have a working firearm built in a few hours if the apocalypse happens and so far it is not illegal to have tools unlike the UK.  But I'm not going to buy one, have it registered so they can confiscate it down the line

So, what sort of firearms are you considering?  ;D

ar15, another glock 19, and probably a tactical shotgun or another ar15.

I took my daughter to the HAR shooting fair a few months back and she really loved it. So I was thinking it'd be nice to have a few extra guns around the home for the wife and my daughter in case zombies eat me a live and my one and only gun is out of reach.

Nice.  Be careful.  Black rifle disease is pretty infectious and expensive.

Same here, but I have not been out training as much as I should either, so easy to justify not having an itch to scratch.

I hear ya.  I haven't shot since around early Aug due to family and personal stuff going on.  Hopefully most of that is behind me now and have been looking forward to start shooting again.  But yeah, when I'm not shooting or mind is on other things, the temptation for something new goes way down for me.  That said, when I get the itch back, it can get expensive.   ;D

Good point, I felt okay for a while as I wasn't shooting for some time. But I guess my mind runs a bit wild as a "coincidence theorist" looking at the market tanking, rates rising, countries moving away from the USD, China & Russia cuddling up playing war games, solar activity is going down, cascadia earthquakes, etc...  I'm the perfect impulse buyer.

And now is the season for impulse buying!  At least for me.  Lots of national holiday type sales.  Veterans Day coming up and then on to black Friday, cyber Monday and CHRISTMAS!  Recently, I've been searching for AR parts or shooting gear, so can do a lot of that via online shopping.  It gets dangerous.  I had to start making lists and prioritizing.   ;D

I'll start out with,  I do not violate any constitutional Federal, state or local laws.
Wtih the advent of rapback,  the refusal of Hawaii police to conform to
Court rulings (Young v Hawaii),  and the refusal of the state attorney general
to rule on Young v Hawaii, I would expect people to consider going "Black market".
Buy really good guns for self defense, ignore laws.  Shoot, shovel, and shut up.
They are no longer enforcing the law, they are enforcing their personal opinions,
using the full force of the government to break you to their will.
Buy an Uzi from a gang in Seattle,  no need to tell Hawaii about it.
I wouldn't do this but I would not be surprised if someone else did.
