Great news!  Now, buy a safe and bolt it to the floor if you haven't done so already.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

This prompted me to do a quick Google search on how effective my gun safe is.   ;D  The info out there seems to suggest that  any safe can be cracked with time. However, gun safes require a lot of time to crack and more often then not, need to be carted off so that the thieves can take their time. Home safes, however, can be cracked in place with common tools such as pry/crow bars, sawsalls, etc. in a short period time.  When a gun safe is used, most of the reported losses stem from having the safe carted off. Using a gun safe and bolting it to the floor is therefore strongly recommended to prevent the loss of properly secured firearms.  Very little thefts of firearms secured in gun safes have been reported in situations where the home was protected by an audible alarm.

If you are using one of those bio safes with a fancy key system or something similar at bedside,  that's essentially the same as using a sturdy lock box.  You can probably kiss that goodbye to thieves either because they can be easily carted off or broken into with common household tools.  While bolting them to the floor improves your chances, that only works if the thief doesn't have a lot of time in the house.  If you leave your handgun in one of those contraptions while you're off on a vacation, you can kiss the firearm goodbye if someone breaks into your house while you are out.
