Been saving up some extra scripts.... finally pulled the "trigger" and ordered a bunch of extra mags for my pretty standard guns....

MIDWAY USA was "OUT OF STOCK" on more than half of my order....    Looking at a month wait....

Hit up my local dealers for some bulk .223, was told " Out of stock for the time being".... Not sure......

Now I know I can buy a box or two here and there, but what's up?

Major Shortage of 223 9mm and 22LR

US Gov just bought 1 million rounds.

Parts....AR all backordered.  little springs and small parts cant keep up with the demand.

Many companies backordered on parts and also not taking any new orders!

It's election time and everyone is worried Obummer is tilting the election in his favor and is going to ban guns using an Executive Order.

Also this has to follow the radical agenda of the UN.  Look up UN Agenda 21.

Lots of other stuff is out of stock, too. Molds, brass, gunsmithing tools, etc. Have to look to other sources than Midway for some of these things at the moment.

I'm not sure what the "truth" of the matter is but I think its the same as when Obama was elected. Everyone was preparing for the draconian gun laws that were sure to follow. Didn't quite work out that way, did it? We're going to have a repeat performance this year, anyway. Probably worse. While a second term Obama is certainly much more dangerous in this regard I have a feeling the people that are going to profit most are those selling used guns. If you have nice piece you've been thinking of selling just watch the polls during the general election and put it on the market when Obama's chances look good.

My solution? Reload and cast my own bullets. Much easier to find ammo parts when everyone is freaking out and stocking up on the military rounds. Assembling the parts into ammo isn't hard and its less expensive. Its also wicked fun to play around with load data and tune a load to your firearm. Adds a whole new arena of involvement with my favorite hobby. And when someone tells me that finding ammo for this or that gun is getting harder I just say "Yeah. That's sucks, huh? Hey, can i have that brass?"

I think the draconian gun laws were more of a worry than reality because Obama is smart and realized that he won't be re-elected if he does that before the election. After this election he becomes a lame duck and won't care how he hurts the country. I believe this is when you will see the assault on our guns.

As far as the shortages are concerned, if you have been reading this forum for a while now you know this is what occurred in the past so there should be no surprise that it is happening again. If you need to make a purchase you should consider doing it now rather than later because prices are going to rise on those things that will continue to be in high demand. Do a lot of searching and you can probably still find what you want online. But maybe at a higher price. If you can wait a year or two I suggest you do because when the hysteria dies down prices will come down as well. If you are worried about something you need being banned after the election it may be too late. It depends on who gets elected. I can tell you this much, I was on the Big Island last election and it took a year before supplies of 9mm of any type got to normal levels. The prices are higher than they were before the last election and never came down to pre-election levels. During the shortage Winchester white box of 9mm was selling for $40+ if you could find it. Self defense ammo was in the $50 range if you could find it.

I have been stocking up for 6 months now. And when I receive my next shipment of powder I will be at a level that will carry me for a minimum of 2 years but more like 3 years. And I shoot a lot. I really suggest all of you do the same as history is doomed to repeat itself as far as shortages and prices are concerned.

Chances are this early in the season only the most popular and high demand products will be hard to get. Things like the military style ammo and the cheaper ammo will go first. Things like magazines will also be high demand products. Then eventually the higher priced ammo and components will start becoming scarce. Actually, about 3 weeks ago I went to order some 55gr bullets in .224 (Used for .223 and 5.56mm) and they were out of the ones I wanted which are the most popular. They had the 50gr which I didn't want and when I went back the next day to place a backorder for the 55gr, the 50gr were gone, too. Things are not bad yet as most of the backorders will be filled soon. It is when the orders that come in are larger than the backorders then you have to wait for the next backorder or the next. Also, all the "Black Guns" will get scarce first. So AR's and AK's and the variants will be harder to get. Glocks, Sigs, etc. which sell well without any help will be hard to get. And the list goes on and on.....

Quick way to make a killing? Stock up on that stuff now and sell it when its all gone. Great way to sell the purchases to the significant other! And if that doesn't pan out you still have some pretty cool stuff.   

Seriously, though. Guns are probably a better investment than gold right now if you get the stuff people are going to be jonesing for later. Ideally, the manufacturers know this, too, and are looking forward to meeting a brisk demand this time around. I would if I were them and I could afford the extra stock.

I thought that gold was a good investment/preservation of wealth 7 year ago when it was around $400.00 per ounce.  I am now thinking that ammo may not only become scarce since this is an election year, but that cost will continue to increase.  I am not suggesting that we hoard supplies for profit, instead, more along the lines that Inspector pointed out that it may be wise to get it while it is available (now) instead of paying through the nose when it is not so readily available.  Hmm, kinda like ammo prepping.  I noticed that most suppliers' prices increased the first of this year and some by 10% or more.

Just need to keep "in a cool, dry place."  So how do I convince my wife that we need a refrigerator to store my ammo?

Yeah I need to get on with my powder & primer hoarding.  I'm good up on my 45 acp & 223 Rem for now.

I've been buying ammo for some time now, so i'm not in dire straights or anything. I like to pick up a box or two (or more, heh heh) every paycheck.

Last month I splurged and bought a case of .223 and a case of 9mm.

Looking for another case of .223 to put away.

I figured I'd better stock up on  hi-cap mags before Barry bans um if he gets reelected... thats my order from Midway...

I have been ordering a lot of supplies from Powder Valley lately. I just found out they have a Facebook Page. I just visited their Facebook page and it is filled with news of powder and primers being in short supply. Here is just one of the postings on their wall from Powder Valley:

"Powder Valley April 4.
Received a nice shipment from Hodgdon today. However, note we only received 1/3 of what was ordered. .......Supply disruptions are hitting levels exceeding that of 2009 across the board from most all manufacturers."

Local S.A. here wiped of all .22 and .223.... Still had 9mm. though.

I was able to find 525 rd. (.22) boxes at another local dealer for cheap. $20 loose... great deal.

I order from MidwayUSA a lot and normally they have the items I want. Nikon has a rebate on some ProStaff scopes and I wanted to get the new EFR rimfire scope for my new Ruger 10/22. Of course they were out of stock when I wanted to place the order. I just shopped around and got it from Cabelas. In fact it was fortunate that MidwayUSA was out of stock. Cabelas had a special going on shipping. Cost of shipping to sunny Hawaii - one penny. Awesome! The Ruger 10/22 magazines were cheaper from MidwayUSA so I waited until I got an email notification when they were back in stock.
