What’s your poison, over and under or semi auto? Remember it’s not the gun that hits targets, it’s you. I’m an avid trap shooter and I shoot no better with a dedicated trap gun than I do with a field O/U or semi auto. There are Turkish field o/u shotguns that are in your price range but are not designed to go 20k plus rounds. You see it all depends how much you are going to shoot and how often. All that aside I would give Tristar a look. They make some real good semi autos and O/U shotguns. They also have O/U’s that are trap guns as well as unsingles (no top barrel, just the bottom). Some members in our trap club have them and have well over 20k rounds thru them and are as tight as the day they were new. Look around on gun broker, guns America etc and you’re sure to find a good browning BT 99 that’s a real nice gun. Good luck and hope to see you at Koko Head when they open up again, hopefully in a month or so.

Thank you for all the info I'll look up those options and see from there. I live on Maui and the only place that rents guns for trap shooting is an hour and a half away but the range that's closer to me has trap shooting but you must have your own gun so that's the reason I'm looking into getting something good for trap shooting.

I enjoy skeet more than trap and only got into it here as there is not much pheasant or grouse type game birds here as back home. 
Regardless, I think one should become as proficient as possible with their firearms and as I like to K.I.S.S. as much as possible, I like to shoot skeet with an18"  870.
Not only do I get more time on my SD/HD shotgun skills, but keeping up with those who have full length / choke clay shotty's vs my 18" is VERY gratifying, especially the doubles.

I'm old school.
Browning auto 5. with a Lyman Cutts full choke.
Remove the bead from the barrel.
Mine was inherited from my Grandfather and
I used it since age 12.
Our local trap range has longer range stations optional
I use those longer positions( 16 is normal).
I don't really like skeet, but if you move to
a  modified tube it should work OK for skeet.
You can only get the Auto 5 used.  It is  well within
your price  range from the mainland, They can also
be really pricey.  Mine is a Butt ugly 1953 production
most the bluing is gone, well used.
When not shooting trap the gun is
is awesome for Chuckar, Turkey, and Herkles.
Biggest thing is to get a gun that fits and
is instinctive to use.  The auto 5 works for me.
My other shot gun is a Beretta O/U  you can't afford that.
There is a reason they cost over $2,000.

Have you tried any other clays games. Skeet,5 stand, sporting clays. Since you live on Maui you have the ranges that provide these. I wouldn’t get a dedicated trap gun and would look for a sporting gun like the Remington competition. It’s a little more than your $900 budget but its worth the little extra money for what you get with the shotgun.

Have they opened up the skeet ranges yet? Last word I got was the C&C accepted the work that was done. Trap side is still closed down. No targets were ordered until the last minute. Par for the course at HTC!

Haven't been to KHSC since that revolver round up.
I shoot at a private range every week.
Got to admit though, it's getting harder to find clay's since SA closed

I only know of 2 ranges and only been to maui trap since hes the only one that rents out guns. so never really got to see anything else.
