Exploding Bullets
« on: December 26, 2018, 04:46:08 PM »
I just read about making exploding bullets if you are shooting something at least 7mm in size.  It said to drill a hole at tip of bullet, you may have to flatten it first, and put in a small pistol primer or even a .22 short with the rim facing toward the front.  It supposedly will go off upon impact.  What do you guys think?  Will it work or not?  I don’t have any rifles bigger than .223 cal so I can’t try it.  I could stuff it in my 9mm but if I did, I would only try it on the chambered round.  I would be afraid of the recoil dislodging any in the magazine.  Anyone want to try it and report back?  :D :shaka:

would it even be noticeable?  a 9mm has a muzzle energy of ~400 ft lbs.  a 22LR colibri (22 round with just a primer, no powder) as a muzzle energy of 16 ft lbs.  If you were going to put an explosive in a bullet I'd choose RDX.  not exactly easy to make or procure :)

I don’t know if it would be noticeable or not.  I just read it when I came across this white supremacy rag which also showed how to make IEDs and homemade firearms.  It claimed even the primer would increase the damage a bullet would do in a flesh wound.  They also talked about using pellet guns for close range sniping by putting stuff like ricin in the pellet.  There are some crazy radicals out there.  I can imagine what would happen if gun confiscation became a reality.  These guys are growing castor beans to make ricin.  What really surprised me I this stuff is still on the Internet and has not been shutdown by the government.

If you make up one in 7.62mm NATO, I might find a way to try it out.

As far as the pellet gun, I recall reading G Gordon Liddy decades ago about that.  Being a felon, he could not own firearms (though his wife had a collection) and his description of pellet guns that he could possess.

He mentioned filling hollow point pellets with nicotine.

Where the heck do you find that?  Distill a smoker's breath?

I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of castor bean plants growing wild on the road I drive to work.  I havent stopped to check for sure.

I think the time and energy needed to make stuff like that for real life use is not worth it.  More ammo is much easier than just trying to make each round more lethal.  I would not be surprised though if they had tried making bullets out of tannerite.

Oh, I also found this online:

"40+ years ago, I had a 45-70, 500 grain HP bullet mold.
I could get a couple of grains of Bullseye powder and a LG Rifle primer seated in the nose.
By drilling it out deeper, I could get even more powder & a primer in it.

All it did was make a tiny puff of smoke at 100 yard range, and didn't even deform the bullet at close or long range.

It made absolutely No Difference in bullet expansion at all."

You can actually buy it online. My dad got hospitalized  from nicotine poisoning by wearing patch’s and smoking st the same time

I can't imagine you would be able to retain much accuracy.

The top of The extra special list. Lol.

Funny, I used to feed the cows castor plants when I was a kid.
Today there are castor plants and beans  where I walk the mutt. It's quite common here.
