Called 911 today for a traffic light outage
« on: December 28, 2018, 01:22:42 PM »
Was on hold for 7 mins so I hung up.  About 3 mins later, HPD called back and I told the above.

Imagine if someone was trying to harm me or breaking into my home.  10 mins just to call for help (excludes response time).

This is why the 2A is so important.  And like how SCOTUS ruled, PD have no duty to protect you (Warren vs. DC)

But to be fair, when I called them a while ago, I got someone right away (operator) and response time was under 3 minutes.  But Murphy strikes when ever he feels like it so if it were an emergency, 10 mins is very long.

When you called they ask if it was an emergency (you said no i hope) and they put you at the bottom of the list.  Emergency's bump you down more and more.

That would make a lot more sense.

Don't hang up on 911.  They have to waste time calling you back or they'll send an officer to the location.  They get a lot of misdials and hangups which they have to follow-up on and adds to the wait time.

I stayed on the phone for 20 minutes once and the issue had already been resolved.  The operator thanked me for staying on the line.

Will do next time I call and no one answers for non emergency calls.  At least I did pick up when they called back.

Even a 20 min response time would be quick on the BI.  When my friend from Alaska moved to my subdivision and decided he did not need his rifle and shotgun here, he went to the police station to ask about the procedure to sell them. He told me the cop told him, “You might want to reconsider selling both of them.  If you have trouble we probably won't be able to get to you for at least 45 min.”

Thats why they ask you emergency or non emergency. The emergency calls get prioritized and non emergency can be made to hold.

Goops, looks like London beat me to that answer!

I asked hpd about procedure to transfer ownership to big island.  He asked where on big island? I said puna. He said yes, you need a firearm over there.

Some parts, not all of Puna, can be very dangerous places.  That is why I make sure that whenever I leave my home, I am UNARMED, because none of us here does anything illegal.

It is funny how they don't mind us having guns at home where we are "safest",  but they refuse to let us Conceal/open carry
in public where we are far more at risk of attack.  I too never violate any constitutional Federal, state, or local laws.

The non-emergency number for HPD is (808) 529-3111 or is there a better number to call?
