HB342 Testimony: An example of what to expect?

The testimony is up for HB342, which "Prohibits the Hawaii Strategic Development Corporation from investing in fossil fuel or firearm companies. Requires the Corporation to divest all fossil fuel and firearm investments".

https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/Session2019/Testimony/HB342_TESTIMONY_EDB_01-30-19_.PDF

I consider this bill an example of "creep", in which all things firearms related, even peripherally, are demonized and targeted for elimination.

There is one "organization" testimony in support. It's from the Oahu County Democratic Party.

There is one "organization" testimony in opposition. It's from HIFICO.

There is one "individual" testimony in opposition, It's from some gun nut (ahem).

There  are 14 "individual" testimonies in support. They have been submitted as a group, and are all high school students. It includes gems such as this: "I support this bill because there will be less school shootings if this bill pulls through." and "Adding on to the fire arms, although it would affect Military Soldiers, more people are killed in mass shootings than in war." [Let's hear it for our educators successful efforts to produce such well-informed citizens and voters!]

A CORRECTION to the original post: there WAS one (1) additional "individual" supportive testimony besides those of the high school students.

There have been several cases recently of high school students "letters to the editors" being published in the Hilo online version of HTH. These letters have been classroom assignments created by our teachers union members who have a slight tendency to lean a particular direction politically.

I'm wondering if we are going to see more of this high school assignment mass testimony on all the upcoming rights-denying legislation? This is what we pay teachers for?

Oh, I guess perhaps most importantly on this bill, the first testimony listed is from the director of HSDC stating that they have no such investments in fossil fuels or firearms companies and don't expect that they would in the future. So, there's that. Otherwise, excellent piece of legislation and worthy of our legislators spending time and taxpayer money to hear and vote on.

To many it doesn't seem like a big deal and gunsmithing isn't a big industry here, but this seems like the start of more bad things to come.  Also furthering the agenda to make gun control a mainstream attitude.

I'm brainstorming ideas what we can do for the kids that testified.  I'm thinking create a civil rights tent at the shooting sports fair and inviting those 14 students to attend.

I hope if there are teachers involved, they're not guiding them to the anti-2a stance.  But more like chaperones like how all school groups are.  Because the students do have a 1st amendment right, even though wrong, it's their right.  So if the adults are teaching them the wrong stats, then that's something that should be a red flag.

Surely you jest?

Based upon remarks made by several administrators in the Hawaii school system, including one here on the Big Island, I asked for documentation about the "rules" for the "protests" (of last March), and the internal discussion documents about the creation of those rules and was completely stonewalled at the county and state levels. Now why wouldn't they want to share that information if they were mere arbiters of "fair" and unbiased policy decisions?

And then there's this, from someone who did manage to finally (almost a year later) obtain such documents in another location:

Docs Reveal Portland School Administrators Planned & Paid for ‘Student’ Anti-Gun Protest

http://www.victoriataft.com/docs-reveal-portland-school-administrators-planned-paid-for-student-anti-gun-protest/

Public documents obtained by a Portland attorney reveal that Portland Public School staff, planned, executed and paid for what the media and the school district branded as a ‘student’ anti-Second Amendment protest last March 14th.

Does anyone here have any connection to the school system that would allow them to more easily get the agenda from the "Secondary School Conference" that these students had just attended and suddenly became activists against fossil fuels and firearms? I'd really love to see video of the presentations by the adult leaders as they helped the students examine both sides of all issues and to hone their critical thinking skills ().

A number of the students repeated the 12-years-left environmental doom claim as stated by Sandy Alexandria Ocasio_Cortez last week. Here are there versions:

"We may only have twelve years before the effects of excessive fossil fuel usage will have devastating effects on our planet."

"We have 12 years to cut our fossil fuel use before climate change becomes “catastrophic.” "
