President's State of the Union Address - 2019
« on: February 05, 2019, 01:54:25 PM »
Maxine Waters is boycotting the address, and she encouraged everyone else to not watch it.

John Lewis also said he's not going.

Anyone not watching out of protest (not just because you are working, etc.)?

My prediction: the address will be Ruthless...      :geekdanc:

I will watch it.

I saw my first SOTU when Obama gave his, IDK what year it was.  But I was like damn, he's a good speaker.  This was before I was awoke.  Now to reflect back, he's full of it.

I hope Pelosi brings illegals as her guest, then ICE comes in and arrest them.

From what I've heard, Trump is inviting a boy who is harassed because his last name is Trump, Angel parent, Pittsburgh active shooting survivor (Jews), the black grandmother he pardoned due to Kim Kardashian asking (I thought he was racist).

Seems like the only way to get the press to take notice of anything, you have to trot out victims to tug on people's heart strings.

I didn't watch the entire thing, but I left my TV on Fox news to show support even though I was not awake.

I listened to probably a little less than half of it.  What I did hear, I liked and generally agreed with.  Much of what I heard I sort of thought that agreement would be almost universal if you're an American.

Then I was listening to much of the "fact check" type analysis.  It seemed even for the liberal slant, there was difficulty in picking significant holes and even some were conceding good points.  That was shocking.

One that made me  ::) was the counter regarding statistics on impact of illegal immigrants.  The counter was a study that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than US citizens, so cutting down on illegal immigration would not impact that.  To me that was TOTALLY missing the point.  Any crime by an illegal immigrant is too much.  If they weren't in the country, the wouldn't be able to commit a crime.  If that crime impacts a US citizen, even worse.  One is too many in my mind.  They seem to argue that in terms of anti-gun stuff, so how is illegal immigration different.

Then NPR coverage this morning about a stat about deaths from illegal drugs crossing the southern border.  The analysis was on Trump's statement that increased security measures in between ports of entry would result in less drug related deaths.  The NPR guest countered with a stat that a large quantity of drugs are confiscated at ports of entry, so increased security measures in between those ports of entry would not have an impact.  Huh?  If you don't have security measures in between ports of entry, you don't know what is coming through.  That's the point!  One which I can't see why so many can't get that through their heads. . .

TDS, that's why.  Also do they think if the cartels are sending in a new leader/high level enforcer to lead in the US, they're going to send him in  a car at a point of entry?  No they're going to have him cross the border and a car waiting (Twin hitmen in Breaking Bad style).  Or the guys with tattoos all over their face?  That just screams, search my vehicle more.

I see a couple things going on.  First is control of narrative.  Those who are not independent thinkers will be swayed by that surface level assertion and taken as fact.  Second is that sides are so eager to find fault that they lose focus on the big picture.  Both "cutting off the nose to spite the face" and "inability to see the forest for the trees". . .

This amazes me when Charlie Kirk (The "Change my mind" guy) visits various liberal colleges.  The students think they're so smart until he bombards them with facts.  Then to them, facts don't matter.

College just lets you think that you're smart, but doesn't teach you to think (free thinker).

Google search for the transcript leads to CNN with a picture of a smug looking pelosi looking down on Trump and then a bunch of links to the rebuttal transcript

Duckduckgo (non-tracking search site) leads to the transcript without the manipulated picture and no links to the rebuttal transcript

I am so tired of being manipulated

Very close to be completely google free

Me too, but it will take some getting used to the format of another search engine.  Like if someone came into your home and remodeled your kitchen and spend $100K.  At first you would hate it because the spoons are not where they should be.

since installing blockada on my android phone last month is has already blocked 38,449 connections to tracking sites.  A google phone is 100% pure tracking and monitoring device built from the ground up to constantly monitor its user (it also can be a phone).  Geez, it tries to connect to 4-5 tracking sites just when I unlock it.

Running on my home computer   - non-google browser with noscript, no tracking app, no ad app, VPN with DNS that blocks tracking sites.  I'm going to order a Pi-hole (mini computer that sits between the main computer and the internet also blocking tracking).

the election cycle is already starting up and it is going to be a frenzy of manipulation for 2 years.

So tired of the tracking, monitoring, manipulation BS.

You mean Steven Crowder ("Louder with Crowder")?  He does the Change My Mind videos I've watched on campuses -- or nearby if the schools kick his team off the property.
