My co-workers and I started this Yelp thing, where we would try to eat at all the hot spots.  We came across a place in Kalihi called Island Style BBQ.  The family that runs it are awesome and the food is Ono.  So instead of going to all these other places to eat, we always end up there!

where in kalihi? what kind of food?

A HS classmate is on this "mom blog", which is a group of three mom's who go all over and review restaurants.  Their blogs are more neutral for even the not so good places, but I'll text her from time to time for suggestions on the new hot spots.  Every so often, we have a happy hour with a bunch of HS friends as some new places and many times they really hook it up.  Of course, many times it's her and my other female HS friends getting free drinks, but still fun.   ;D

Growing up, Toshi's was awesome.  My grandmother lived right by there.  Old style where she'd share stuff from her garden and they'd give her plates of food.  I haven't been in years, but I think they are still there.  Damn, now I want eat there.

Then there's Richie's.  Not necessarily family, but I got to know most of the filipino ladies when my grandmother was still alive.  Their boneless chicken was AWESOME!

had some food for superbowl from Ahi & Vegetable in kalihi on Dillingham by zippys
i'm not really a fish guy or vegetable guy, but it was very good.
ahi was fresh and the cuts were thick, we also had some California rolls which were pretty tasty too
they have bentos, salad, sashimi plates, bowls, sushi although sushi is kind of limited in choices but the CA rolls were good

On King street across from bank of Hawaii.  Pass gulick going east bound, it'll be in the right.  They have reserved parking in the back.  They have a huge menu.  All different types of food.  Almost local fusion ish.  I had furikake ahi a few times with a wasabi aoli,  whoa kanak attack.
