Gallup Poll: Conservatives vs Liberals
« on: February 25, 2019, 08:38:34 AM »
The reports starts out "...The residents of most U.S. states are more likely to identify as conservative than as liberal in their political ideology. In 25 states, the conservative advantage is significantly greater than the national average, including 19 "highly conservative" states in which conservatives outnumber liberals by at least 20 percentage points. Meanwhile, in six states, there are more liberals than conservatives..."

So if this is the case, why do we see the huge amount of liberals voted into office? Why are we not seeing more conservative values put into place? Maybe the conservatives are just too busy working to take take care of all of the liberal socialized programs and too tired to deal with it?...

You left out the number of people identifying in the poll as "Independent".

Many Liberals prefer to label themselves as Independent, pretending they are not sheep being lead by any political party.  Often it's because they've become disenchanted by the Democrats, but aren't quite unhappy enough to adopt the GOP.  They will automatically vote for Democrat candidates while telling themselves they are choosing "the best candidate".

It takes someone with well-seated values and opinions to identify as part of a specific party. People who call themselves Independent often don't know WHAT they believe in. Then on election day, they vote how they "feel."

So, take a look at the poll numbers for Independents. Your answer is there.

Quote
A Pew Research Center analysis that examined partisan affiliation from 1992 to 2014 found that, in 2014,
39% of the public identified as independents, which was larger than the shares calling themselves Democrats (32%) or
Republicans (23%).
Quote
In 2014, 17% of the public leaned toward the Democratic Party while 16% leaned toward the GOP; just 6% declined to lean toward a party.

When the partisan leanings of independents were taken into account, 48% either identified as Democrats or leaned Democratic;
39% identified as Republicans or leaned Republican.

Dumbing it down for him, just because they call themselves "Independent" doesn't mean they aren't Democrats or lean Democrat.

9% difference.
And not even a majority.
And includes “leaning”.

Hardly in line with your original statement.

Also doesn’t mean they’re not Republican or lean Republican. Clearly.

This OP included 2 political ideologies: Conservative and Liberal.

I said he should also also include those who identify as Independent because many also vote Democrat -- almost half of Independents vote/lean Democrat, and more than those who vote/lean Republican.

His question was: "So if this is the case, why do we see the huge amount of liberals voted into office?"

Do you have an intelligent answer, or are you just going to troll me some more?

I swear, you sound more ignorant every time you try to attack me.

Oh shit. I just flipped the script and it still works based on your numbers.

That’s why we’re called Independents. Because we’re the only non-sheep in the field.
(Well the 13% of us I guess.)

 :geekdanc: (Flapdance for effect)

Ok now over and out for real. (Mic Drop)

P.S. I’m a Republican leaning Independent who voted for Rep. Sam Kong, a Conservative leaning Democrat who also supports 2A.

Poll numbers are Bullshit.

I purposely lie whenever I take a poll just to throw their numbers off.

They think I'm a gay, Asian female, in the 18-25 age group and I make $200,000+ per year.

All threads in this category (political discussion) are just as likely to devolve into a food fight.

Maybe because conservative can exist in different forms. One can be fiscally conservative, one can be socially conservative, one can be conservative with government, etc. The republican party combines a number of these aspects in ways that aren't always that compatible. So when a poll asks whether someone is conservative they might answer it in different ways that don't indicate they would actually vote republican.

However the simplest answer may be that voting rates don't always neatly reflect the population. I seem to recall that republicans do have voting blocks that are more consistent and participating.

My initial thought upon reading this post was "vocal majority".  See that a LOT in Hawaii, at least IMO.  Both voicing their opinions in public, social media, etc, but also in stuff like polls.  That who knows how many "others" are not even responding to polls.

That and probably the polls might be getting flooded with responses from the urban centers, like how the voting patterns seems to show super high concentration of liberals.

This is purely anecdotal.
Very few people that can vote , vote in Hawaii.
Hawaii has a lot of Union and government workers that DO vote.
We have lots of DINOs here but the corruption of  Oahu centric
committee chairs kill any  innovation.
I do not violate any constitutional federal, state, or local law,
but when you have no representation why bother to obey?
Why should we view the government as anything but something to
avoid, and not communicate with except as forced to?
Hawaii is ruled by a upper class of liberals.
Everyone knows if you oppose the king you need to obliterate it
or you'll face a terrible fate.
We just haven't figured out out to obliterate the king just yet.

You need to go back into Hawaii's history as to why Hawaii became the Democratic fortress it has been since 1959.  Long story short, it was the predominant Republican Big Five and their racist rule in business and politics after the illegal Annexation of Hawaii by the US that forever sealed the hatred for the Republican Party by the majority of all local non-white peoples.  In fact, one has to be amazed to see that the animosity of the Republican Party has lasted into the 21st century.

Based on what has happened in the recent past, unless Hawaii voters has reached another breaking point with the status quo, which paved the way for Republican Linda Lingle or if the Republicans can field a Japanese candidate like Pat Saiki, which could cull the local Japanese vote; it would be very unlikely any Republican candidate will succeed.

Granted it may have been an illegal annexation.  That certainly is not unknown in human history.
But why do you feel the need to submit to the whims of the most racist of races,
that being Chinese and Japanese( try to get a date with one) and their
absolute hatred of guns and the ability of you to be able to protect yourself
from their governance?
BTW this is the only state that only allows hunting on weekends.  Why is that?
Only state that requires permission from the state to purchase any gun. Why is that?
The reason is the 9th Circus court and the amount of time it would take to get to
the supreme court and toss out all of Hawaii's BS laws.  Plus there are
less than 2 million people here so we are a drop in the 350 million people pond
so the tyrants here rule like they darn well feel.
Don't be surprised if you get surprised someday.
If I see something, I have a bad memory.
