Senator Rhoads,
My name is REDACTED and I live on REDACTED Ave in Honolulu, in your senate district. I was also at the town hall meeting the other night when you stood up to defend your position on passing bills SB600, SB621, SB1322, & SB1466 through your Judicial Committee. Your argument was that because of Hawaii’s strict gun control measures along with the isolation we have as a state, there haven’t been any serious incidents involving guns. This is true, thankfully we haven’t had any serious incidents, yet you continue to propose ever-tightening and restrictive measures on firearms ownership. My question to you is when is enough, enough?? Your continued support for these more intrusive regulations will only make law abiding citizens criminals! Ive been a legal firearms owner for the last 27 years. Since I’ve been in Hawaii I have followed the letter of the law and jumped through the hoops you and the rest of the legislature have put in front of me. I’m proud to say that I have maintained my right to legally own firearms in spite of your efforts. My frustration comes from the fact that every year I have to fend off your ever encroaching efforts to criminalize my hobby and now, profession. These bills do absolutely nothing to fight crime as criminals simply skirt the law, you are targeting law-abiding, tax-paying citizens with a steady march towards gun confiscation and sincerely wish you would consider this.
Your words the other evening indicated to that you were unconcerned that “one side of the issue had organized better than the other..” and that you were only concerned with the opinion your own constituency. Well sir, I am one of your constituents and I wish you hadn’t taken our opinion so lightly.
I appreciate your time.
Sincerely,
REDACTED
