Hawaii not the same anymore...
« on: March 11, 2019, 01:23:22 PM »
Strange thing just happened to me.

I was in Waipahu, getting a haircut, as I was walking out of the barber shop, these two arab dudes pulled up in their car in front of me. White rental Dodge (had the bar code on the back window.) Dressed in typical arab attire, long sleeve collar shirt, slacks. Not normal Hawaii attire,  and you don't normally see arabs, rental cars, nor tourists in the deep Waipahus.. that started my suspicion alarms in my head...

Dude says, "excuse me boss, you Filipino?" I say no. "Where are you from? You from here?" Right now all my suspect alarms are going off.. hand on my pocket knife.. I say yeah, why is that?

Then they take off... freaking weird.

Hawaii not the same nowdays. Keep your situational awareness sharp. Watch out....

Chalk that up as one more incident where I would have been far more comfortable with my pistol on my belt....

Could be recruiting for ISIS in the PI.  3rd SF is in that area and working on that.

CCW would not have helped because they go aloha snackbar and detonate the SV they're wearing.

But all jokes aside, that is very suspicious and maybe worth a call to homeland (see something say something)?  Recruiting for ISIS cause asking specifically for a flip is unusual.

Agree. Report it. if others do, too, it could show what they are up to. if nothing else, investigators could ask for security footage in that area to ID the car and occupants.

That is pretty unnerving. I've had tourist ask me for directions because they were lost on the most unlikely of side streets to see a tourist, but they spoke with humility and asked questions typical of what you would hear come from them. "Excuse me where is xxxxx". "Excuse me, where can I find the nearest xxxxx."

Yeah Google Maps isn't the most cooperative at times, and if you're trying to find a specific store in a plaza, Maps suck a$$ at doing that. But, "Are you Filipino?!?" For real, really? What good is that information gonna do you?...

I'm with you with feeling safer with a pistol on my hip. If they went boom, meh, if they did it right I shouldnt feel a thing. Anything other than that they would have to fight for whatever it is they want. Definitely out of the ordinary. The world isn't the same anymore and it would be foolish to think insidious acts and deception can't make it here to the islands.

Maybe they were looking for best legit Filipino food joint?

Perhaps the objective of the sting is to gauge the public's apathy when supposedly suspicious strangers ask personal questions, and then leave without explanation.

Failure to report shows the public is not interested in participating in "public safety."  That being the theoretical case, the effectiveness of red flag laws would likewise be impacted by apathetic friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances.

Brian Uyesugi sent up freaking flares, and the people around him were unwilling to report his bizarre behavior.

If they are scammers, they probably aren't paying for the rental, either.   :shaka:

I met a couple local Muslims while I was visiting a local farm and they were processing goats for Ramadan. They dressed like locals and did their best to blend in and keep to themselves, but were more than happy to let me watch and talk with me about the techniques they were using. Very cool guys and extremely skilled. They packed 3 goats in the cooler in under an hour and had some skinning tricks I'd never seen before, not even on Youtube. Anyway the local middle eastern contingent are experts at flying under the radar and just want to be left alone. Sounds like the ones in your experience are FOP and up to something shady.

These scams have been going on for decades all over the world. Back in England they would show you a laptop for cheap, you hand over the money, they hand you the laptop in a bag and drive away. You open the bag ad it would have water bottles in it for weight.

The reason this stuff seems more prevelant. Ow is because of social media allowing word to spread faster and further.
