"I can assure people that there is no point in applying for such a permit." (Read 6986 times)

Sound familiar? I mean if Hawaii law enforcement, legislators, and AG bureaucrats actually told the truth instead of flat out lying through their grinning ugly mugs?

This quote is from the New Zealand Prime Minister in announcing that "military style semi-automatics" ("MSSA")(whatever that means) AND "assault rifles" (whatever that means) will now be banned. Formerly a class A permit was required to possess such firearms. Here she announces that immediately the requirement to possess will be a much harder to acquire class E license, AND that no one will be granted such a license! In other words, yes, of course, we have a reasonable legal provision and procedure for people to acquire such weapons, but we will not be giving anyone such a permit!

"These changes to our regulations will ensure virtually all of the weapons I have announced as being banned will be categorized as weapons that require an E-Class endorsement. The effect of this will mean that no one will be able to buy these weapons without a permit to procure from the police. I can assure people that there is no point in applying for such a permit."

This is exactly analogous to Hawaii's fake law that hypothetically could allow a person to exercise their natural unalienable constitutionally-protected civil right to bear arms for self-defense, except for the fact that no one is granted the legal permission to do so. Why won't these assholes just come out and say it, instead of pretending that reality isn't reality? They know it, we know it, anyone who spends 10 minutes researching the issue knows it...even the goddamned Ninth Circuit (through luck of the draw) knows it... yet the local bullshitters deny it. At least the New Zealand Prime Minister stated the obvious out loud in public. Such a thing will apparently never happen in the people's republic of hawaii... a sham bullshit blight on the very concept of liberty and the Constitution of the United States.

It was an interesting day yesterday.  A guy in Kona had shot someone.  The police had a shootout with him apparently (I think they shot at him when he crashed into his cruisers) but he got away.  Later in the day they catch up to him at a gas station about 2 minute drive from my office.  They again shoot at him but he gets away again.  He drives away on a dead end highway, turns around, drives back the other way, eventually crashes and then gets away on foot.

Police still have not found him despite the helicopters flying over my house last night.

we are told to lock down the clinic for safety (good old DHS Run Hide Fight crap).  All I can think of is how the police, who have been chasing him all day, apparently shooting at him several times and he still gets away 3 times, are what I'm supposed to rely on for my safety because I am not responsible enough to carry a firearm in this great state.

It was interesting watching my staff.  Everyone got a little louder, more nervous laughing and joking during our lockdown.  Then chocolate got sent around.  If that guy wanted to come through the door it would have happened and I guess I'd be the only one not crouching in a corner waiting to get shot.

Not happy at all that I cant carry in this state and this armed guy is crawling through backyards somewhere in my neighborhood right now.

At least you can carry in your office.  If you ccw, no one would really know.

But you're right, once you leave the office to your car, you're screwed.

I saw that rather arrogant statement from the NZ PM.
Unbelievable to think that there is no pushback.

Polices, shooting up the neighborhoods, never hitting the supposed target.  If one of the other cops blazing away had it out for you, bad place to be.

A hilarious pic in the liberal West hawaii today shows some meter maid marking and measuring the distance between 25 shell casings.  25 shots and no hits!

They should have been checking for where all those wild shots impacted.  Business owners should sue for damages caused by incompetent cops.

Would not be surprised if they found bullet holes over a greater than 90° arc.  Pray and spray.

what I'm supposed to rely on for my safety because I am not responsible enough to carry a firearm in this great state.

And the cops have proven once again they are incapable of doing anything but shooting up the neighborhood.  Luckily, no dogs were injured or killed.

In oregon I had a conceal carry permit and I actually got permission to have a firearm on me at work because the hospital system did not want to pay for a security guard after we had multiple death threats on the staff (high meth use area with lots of patients trying to get pain meds to sell).  There was a day with an angry patient out front threatening to climb over the desk to hurt the staff.  We had a emergency alarm but the police response time was over 15 minutes on a good day.   What that patient did not know was I was around the corner 10 yards away with a handgun just waiting for him to do something.  There was a brick wall behind him and no other patients in the waiting room.  If he started to climb over the desk I would have easily put him down.  It would have been an easier shot than the indoor range I trained at.    Lucky for him he left (well before the police got there of course)

Frustrating to be told I'm legally required to be a victim.

Even in CA, they issue for that similar reason.  Met a gal who is a mobile vet and takes pain meds with her on house calls.  The city issued her a CCW because of the pain meds transportation.  And she was white, so that helped too.

Compared to here, ZERO for any reason.

Second shooting in 2 weeks here.  schools and work on lockdown again this morning.  I saw truck flying by the office with someone hanging their legs out of the back of the truck driving to the hospital.  Now wondering if they were shot

And I still cant carry....

To make matters worst, the same guy was involved in 3 separate shootings with BIPD and managed to get away again.

This kinda stuff reminds me why I'm proud to be an American.  Just not necessarily in Hawaii tho.

I think this is enough to try and get a carry permit.  I know it wont be approved but I'm going to list the incompetence of the local police and how they cant hit the broad side of an Escalade with their firearms as a reason to give me a carry permit..  People who were watching last week's shoot out at the gas station said it was like watching the 3 stooges try to take him down.

....Then again, I'd probably be harassed by the police if I list their incompetence as a reason.

Heh, I bet if I carried illegally the police would be so incompetent that I wouldnt ever get in trouble.

You're a member of the special privileged classes (doctors, lawyers, entertainers, business owners) singled out by the AG as perhaps being an actual "exceptional case". Surely you must have had some doper that you denied a prescription to who made at least a veiled threat. Though I totally support the "cops are incompetent" argument... not to mention the cops are never there when a personal confrontation crime happens (e.g. in this case they weren't there to stop the woman from getting shot, only to chase after a person and car based upon her description...). I actually asked HPD (Hawaii county) a while back for the statistics re how many times the cops stopped a personal crime in progress. Guess what, they told me that don't keep that statistic... haha... but you know damn well if a cop was on hand to stop a robbery or a rape, etc., it'd be front page news... just wanted to see what they'd say.

I've heard from a person I consider to be a reliable source that at least a couple of people have been discovered (during traffic stops?) by the cops to be carrying concealed, but did not cite the people. This hadn't happened to the source, so it was at least second hand info even to him.

tillamook

I was a bit harsh on the police.  This was a completely separate shooting and we now have 2 gunmen that are on the loose.  Granted then both got away, one twice.  I should not have been so quick to assume the same guy got away 3 times.

This one sounds a little bit more dangerous:

"Upon locating and approaching the 37-year-old male, officers heard a single gunshot that came from an unknown location, which struck the male party,” police say. “Officers transported the victim out of the area to the nearest medical facility. He is reported to be in serious condition. Preliminary investigation has shown that the victim was shot twice.”

Shot once and then when the police showed up shot him again while they were with him.

On Oahu or BI? One would think based on my own personal observations that HPD would tase you, hogtie you, throw you over the hood of the car and then say you were resisting arrest. OK well maybe not that bad, but you would get to do the perp walk and get 3 hots and a cot for a while until they decided you were ineligible to own a firearm and have them all taken away.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.

BI. Like I said, it's just some "stories", but I consider the person who related them "reliable"... now... who told him? He does have some "personal interactions" with some cops who he considers to be 2A friendly, but I don't think these stories came from them.

I'm really glad this is becoming an issue.

The Honolulu Police Commission was mostly effusive in its praise of Police Chief Susan Ballard in the first-year review that was released recently, but key members are clearly troubled by the answers she’s given them on the Police Department’s policy regarding handgun carry permits.

They worry that Ballard and the department may be rejecting gun permit requests either without a legally defensible policy or any policy, and therefore may be violating the Second Amendment guaranteeing citizens the right to bear arms.

Happy to see local gun owners speeking up,noticing a recent trend of pro 2a outnumbering the asleep in these article comments. soon they will have to remove the comment sections for the well being of easily exploding heads.

I wouldn't give them that much credit.  They're afraid that this will go to SCOTUS and will make carry widely available in Hawaii and across the nation if the PDs don't allow a few carry permits to be issued now.

I said it before in earlier posting, but it might have been smarter for them to simply accept the 9th circuit ruling and allow carry in some capacity under their own guidelines instead of "going for broke" with the supreme court and risking a much larger defeat.  I'm guessing this is the reasoning of those commissioners showing concern now.But the funny thing is though that there really is no defensible reason for HPD policy against carry, so their calls on Ballard to create a "legally defensible policy" is largely bullshit.
