I think “less lethal” may have been in reference to deploying a 12ga shotgun with “less lethal” munitions- bean bag rounds, rubber sting ball or fin stabilized rubber projectiles.

Kind of like police shows where they have orange or green Remington 870s.

If 1500 ft lbs of energy is almost frightening, what would the 7mm Rem Mag  my father gave me for my 16th birthday, be with 3200 ft lb of energy at the muzzle and 1500 ft lb at 500 yards be?
