Are AR15 pistols illegal to own in Hawaii or just very difficult to go through the red tape? A local gun store owners say it is allowed but modifications similar to California requirements for regular ARs have to be made. No removeable box magazine and other idiotic requirements must be done making it not worth it.

Now ATF changes the rules recently which add to the confusion.

A true AR pistol is illegal. So I would call it a "modified" AR pistol.  And you're correct, to me it's not worth the mods you have to do.  Unless you want one just to stick it to the man.

You could have a pump AR pistol without any issues. May be desirable for some applications
