If the state let’s them out wait the 2 year extension it will probably end up at $50 million.

I'd guess it'd end up being way way way more than $50 million (they've spent that $3.2 million in ONE MONTH...no data for August was included)... especially if they keep up the the "traffic enforcement" joke of having "well over" 20 cops up there all day every day, likely utilizing lots of overtime both there and for the officers now having to cover for where those cops would normally be on duty. But, hey, who doesn't think it's all worth it to keep the sacred mauna from being desecrated? I wonder what their next target will be once they have achieved success there? Coming to some imaginary kingdom-declared illegally occupied place near you soon!

I could think of a dozen better places to set up a homeless camp. All the cops and reporters should just go home and let them sit around all day long with nothing to do.

Then they'll get bored and go home. If they don't, then cops can make a weekly trip to hand out parking tickets or illegal camping citations..
Run a homeless sweep to clear the road so life can go on.

Those people want to "protect" the mountain while creating more environmental damage to that area in one month than all the years that the observatories have been there.
They are acting like spoiled children  Quite frankly, I'm embarrassed to be a Hawaiian now.

That $3.2M was for half a month.  The MK protesters didn't start blocking the road until the 15th of July.

Ok we have to look on the bright side.  Lua companies and their drivers are making a lot of money, as is the event tent rentals more gas, diesel and propane being sold.  Airlines, hotels and car rentals probably making a little more.  More bottled water, soft drinks and snacks.

On a sad note,  the guy in Kona that had the Mauna Kea Tours for over 2 decades and over 20 vans is about to go out of business and has laid off most of his staff.

How about this, we figure out how much the telescope would have brought in over its lifetime and then we give the protestors the bill. If they want to pony up all the money to pay for all that has and will be lost then we stop the telescope, otherwise move out of the way and build the damn thing already.

See how bundled up the people up there are during the warmest time of the year". Can’t wait for winter to come, a time of year I normally hate because of the short days.
