Berreta 81
« on: August 21, 2019, 06:00:56 PM »
Hey guys
There are a couple of vendors out there that are selling Berreta 81's in 32 cal at a very workable price...A couple hundred bucks...
But... they have a 12 rd magazine.
Classic's suggestion is to find an FFL who will bring it in for me and pin the mag before releasing it.
Anyone know, 1) If there is a shop here that will do this, and 2) Is pinning or blocking the mag an acceptable fix to keep me out of jail.?
I really want one of these, but the ten rd mag thing rains on my parade.
What could be wrong? A medium frame in an easy to shoot caliber. I like my 32's.
No future in buying it without a magazine, then looking for a compliant one.
Modification seems like the only way.
Thanks in advance

Blocking mags is a perfectly acceptable solution.  It's recommended an FFL/Gunsmith do it, since you having the mag in your possession before blocking it is a no-no.  Any FFL that receives the shipped gun for you won't release the mags to you unblocked.

Also, if an FFL does it, you know the method used will pass "legal' inspection.

Biggest downside:  cost per mag to have an FFL do the blocking is almost the same as the cost of a new magazine.

Due to legalities (like in CA), many sellers refuse to ship to states with mag limits just to avoid the hassles.  If this seller will ship to HI, you're halfway there.

Hopefully the price of the gun + paying to block the mags is still "workable".   :shaka:

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

Hey Gordy, Dwayne at Danger Close has a gunsmith who blocks mags and his FFL fee is one of the most reasonable around, give him a call.

I would love to hear what the bottom line is on buying one of these.
Classic price $209, shipping, transfer fee, Mag mods...
In My case I had to add the Rap Back enrollment as I have chosen not to participate yet.
I figure about $400 or more.
Neat gun but...
I decided to pass. :(
