Kokohead Range - AR-15 stolen
« on: May 24, 2012, 08:51:13 PM »
I recently heard that on Sat, 05/19, an AR-15 was stolen off the shooting bench while the line was cold and shooters were checking their targets.   There were no witnesses, not even the RSO's, and a report was filed with HPD.

Did anyone here hear about this incident?

Something doesn't jive with this story, now they're saying it happened on Tues. 05/15.  I will dig a little deeper.

+1.  I am surprised that the ROs did not see it if it did happen - someone going forward of the yellow line, taking a rifle off a bench and behind the line when the line is called safe.

This, I get yelled at everytime I am there because I go infront of it. Seems weird for sure.

Sounds strange. I thought it was only open on Wednesdays to Sundays.
I think, therefore I am armed.

Hahahaha, you go on the wrong side of the yellow line and you replied to the previous post on the wrong side of the post.  You're a habitual wrong sider.  :geekdanc:

I was there on 5/19. I was at the bullseye pistol range in the morning and then at the rifle range after around 1 pm until the last round and didn't see or hear anything about something like that.

I would think it would be highly improbable for it to happen when the line is cold. As mentioned previously, people get yelled at for just grabbing their targets from in front of the yellow line.

From who or where is this info coming from?

They are open on Tuesday?
Maybe confiscated due to shooting while the range is closed and story twisted to stolen?

I guess I could see it happening if it was when the line was hot and the shooter was taking a break FAR away. I usually don't venture anywhere while my guns are out. If this happened when the range is usually open, then maybe I could see that happening before the range opened and while the gun was still cased up.

There's a guy who get there SUPER early on weekdays and locks his gear up on one of the benches. I think he goes to the beach or something like that in between the time when he first gets there until the range opens. The cable he uses doesn't look that solid either.

In any case, I hope this story is just a misunderstanding caused by non-first person info.

In any case, be aware and vigilant. There were a few unsavory characters mos. ago. They came to watch. No ear plugs etc. Casual.

there was a guy there yesterday that was VERY slowly walking down the line looking at everyone's rifles
had a blue sig pistol box with him and he was heading towards the pistol side
i kept an eye on him until he left the rifle line
definitely would've been even more wary of him if he didn't have the pistol box

let's be careful out there...

Better start marking my gun cases then.  I usually step awey from the bench to smoke when the range is hot.  I relaxes me and I save ammo ;D
Anyone can purchase a gun case and  snag a rifle or pistol form folks who like to shoot in area's where nobody is around.  I know of this kind of stuff happening in airsoft and paintball were people will use a large coat or duffel bag, and quickly snatch the gun before anyone  notices.

I asked around to some of the guys that are here almost everyday and no one heard anything but most agreed that they did not doubt that it happened or could happen.
