Colt to Stop Making AR-15s for Consumers

Another company, Colt, folding to the anti-gun machine

https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/19/business/colt-ar15/index.html

Have a couple of older Colt AR-15s but would not consider Colt for new purchases since the market is flooded with other, better brands. However, it's sad to see companies folding to the anti-gun establishment. Walmart and now Colt. What's next? This is the sad part, our choices are being reduced, which is a big concern.

But yeah, there are lots of quality options for ARs.

Overpriced base model AR because they can say LE uses them, so they can charge more.  S&W M&P15 works fine.

What I understand, it has nothing to do with PC bullshiite.

Apparently their polices and military contracts are tying civilian production up.

Of course, leftist gun grabbers will misinterpret and do a victory lap.

I agree. Colt in the past has shunned the consumer market to focus on .mil/LE contracts.  To me, I thought it was mostly refocusing.  They've been left behind innovation on both their handguns (particularly 1911) as well as long guns.  Yup, people still covet specific items for specific reasons.  1911, the Pony, LE/Mil use, etc.

The public announcement stated quite plainly that this is NOT PERMANENT.  They simply analyzed the market, and they believe it's saturated with more sporting rifles than the market can absorb.  High supply vs. lower demand = lower sales.

They can try lowering prices, but I doubt they can go low enough to really compete with some other makers' prices, especially if they can't sell enough units to make up for the price cuts.

The timing of the announcement seems coincidental, though.  This week, USAG Bill Barr is meeting with Trump to hash out a list of possible gun law changes to present to the Senate for consideration.   I wonder if Colt is wanting to get ahead of the potential call for another AWB by signaling that the current climate is already reducing their numbers.  Who knows?

If you're willing to pay that much for a Colt milspec rifle, then you may as well get a FN which is better quality.

Better quality between quality AR producers?  I guess for people who are interested in "fit and finish".  I have heard one common criticism of Colt is that their guns, uppers/lowers, etc sometimes arrive with nicks and dings.  I haven't noticed that any more over say BCM, LMT, etc. . .

I don't own any AR platforms.
I did a count and I don't own any Colts.
In fact if it is per capita most my guns
were made by the PLA, that is Peoples
Liberation Army.
Rest are all American, Spanish, or  Italian.
I have one Smith and Wesson,  lots of Ruger.
No Colt.
Ammo availability drives my gun choices.
5.56 X 45 is not made everywhere.
7.62 X 39 is.

5.56 doesnt have to be made everywhere, only where you live and the 556 is America's caliber. unless you plan on taking you AK's over sees to use it doesnt really matter. Anywhere and everywhere here in the USA you can find 556. That drives my gun choices in getting ARs. Just saying.
