Just Honolulu for now with this settlement.  Hopefully the other PD's will copy it when we show demand for it.  If not there will be future lawsuits but it takes a long time to do them and the attornys can only do so many at a time.

This lawsuit still continues against the State.  Any wins or settlements there will affect all counties.

BTW the late hours will probably start when other county offices start opening to the public.

Yeah for the last 3 months I have been trying to get an appointment and I cant.  This might as well be a soft ban of guns.

Her death certificate will list cause of death as "Trump Derangement Syndrome".   She's not just suffering.  She's also a carrier.

 

The appointment system stays in place during COVID and it's very difficult to challenge it as all other city functions are by appointment or closed too.  We're looking at how it plays out in other States.  There are rumors of antigunners taking up appointments, not sure if it's true or gun people are just not showing up.  Other rumor is that the appointment system stays in place after COVID.  If that is true, then HPD would still have to be open one evening and take whomevers in line.  There is a big demand spike for guns now similar to the spike after Sandy Hook and the 5 hour line at HPD.  HPD has improved things by splitting up permitting and registration since then, but there would still be a long line without the appointment system.

The good part is it would give us justification for pushing a one year handgun permit next year, or defending against eliminating the one year long gun permit.  That combined with the emailed permits and eliminating physically bringing the gun in for registration would make things flow a lot better.

Thanks for the update.  Emailed permits sound amazing.  what are the chances of guns stores being able to background check/ register?  There should be no reason to physically go to the police department.   I have a feeling it might be the antigunners.  I drive by sometimes it doesn't even look like anyone is there.  Coupled with the fact many reports of no appointments and I haven't been able to get one for months.

That's horrible...Wonder if a freedom of info request can be done to prove how many appointments were missed and correlate IP's of people getting appointments.  Maybe they are botting the scheduling.

So what are the facts?  Fact, we’ve already surpassed the number of NICS background checks for all of 2019 and we still have a few months left in 2020.  Fact, people are more insecure about their safety due to a combination of the violence on the mainland and political uncertainty surrounding the election.  Fact, there are more first time gun owners from a survey of gun store owners conducted by the NSSF.  A couple of friends who’ve never owned a firearm before have asked about the process to acquire here.  The simplest explanation to the lack of appointment slots is, well, us, gun owners.  Just like when we had the reservation system for KHSC.  I pointed out several times where not every bench was full, but upon subsequent visits, the benches were full with shooters.  I remember the RO grumbling that his voicemail was full all the time - I’m assuming from individuals cancelling their shooting reservation or calling with questions.

I’m sure there’s a lot of appointment trading going on in the FB groups etc.  and if we were to take an informal survey of this forum even, there are members with multiple appointments they don’t intend to use, but they want to have, just in case.  Just look at how long the process to acquire a pistol is.

While Covid may be a valid reason to have this reservation system, that reasoning loses as 10/15 gets nearer and the State opens up to tourism again and we progress up the Tier system to full reopening.  I want to say Oahu had less than 50 cases yesterday.

I preferred the old first come first served way better.  i used to time my visits for the off-peak times between opening and lunch, and between lunch and closing.  I can’t remeber how many times I left with a good portion of time left on the meter for the next person.

True,  but regardless of the amount of people the governments duty is to serve the people and protect its rights.   As of writing this my second amendment rights isn't really there I am unable to purchase any firearms.  And I wont be for at least 3 months looks like.  Probably closer to half a year or more at the current rate.

That should be an easy rumor to confirm or dispel. Does anyone have connections at firearms registration? There is an easy preliminary test of the hypothesis: Just ask someone at firearms registration what percent of people do not show up. If that number is greater than 10%, it is definitely worth pursuing the claim. If nearly all appointments are booked by people who show up, then there's probably little merit to pursue it any further.
