Got here at 10:10 and no benches. Wow....frustrating.  Next time I' not coming early and will just shoot prone.

Last Thursday i got there at between 10:30 and 10:45. Looked like there were plenty benches open but I went to the prone area anyway;

I mostly go on the Fridays that I have off and it's really hit or miss.  I try to get there early and am normally one of the first handful of people there.  Sometimes I've seen open benches as late as 11:45 and other times the benches are all full 9:00 or so.  There doesn't appear to be a rhyme or reason, just chance. 

Same thing with the waiting list.  Sometimes there are a bunch of open benches after the first or second strings.  Sometimes not until around 2:00 pm or so.  That's why I try to go early and make sure I get a bench in a certain area.  I don't mind getting up early and hang out there.  I usually pick up breakfast on the way and just relax when I get there.  Occasionally, HPD is there training before the range opens and it's actually pretty interesting watching them.

I was wondering about the legality of transporting firearms through a drive-thru. You could claim to be still in transit as you have not left your vehicle and the engine is still running. But on the other hand your vehicle is technically stationary at a privately owned location since it is not moving toward your destination and it could be slightly off from a direct route between your residence and the range. I always make it a point to eat at home and bring a snack and drink with me to the range to appease my paranoia.

Make sure you stop at a drive-thru that has pastries. Offer the cop one and your your way.  :thumbsup: Works every time.  ;)

Weekend open days at Ukumehame Firing Range can be wickedly busy with long waits for a table if you decide to come later in the morning. I normally like taking a vacation day off from my regular gig and go during a week day open day. If you snooze, you lose a chance to get a shooting table. Some of my hardcore buddies get to Ukumehame around 0400 hrs and the RO doesn't get there until 0730 hrs to open the entrance gate.

Looks like Friday's are way better than Wednesdays.  It is 10:10 and only about 5 people here. Cars are starting to trickle in though ....

Your right, For some reason I have a way easier time getting a bench on Fridays rather than wed or thurs.

Yeah.  I've heard that Wednesdays are usually pretty crowded and Thursdays are usually worse.  There are times that I've been there on a Friday that half the benches were open by 1:00-1:30. 

I usually have every other Friday off from work, but haven't had a Friday off in a while or have had other things to do, so I haven't gone in a while.  I have to confirm zero on the red dot for one AR and sight in the optic for another.  I might not be able to go again unti July some time.  :(

Shoot pistol. It isn't as crowded as the rifle side. You just need to learn how to hit the target at 25yards.

I have a bunch of rifles I needed to zero. 

I don't see why they don't open all benches on the weekdays.  Is it that hard for the RSO to walk 20 more paces every 1/2 hour?  To whom do we have to write a email / letter to for requests, concerns, complaints?  I emailed the head range officer in the past and of course never heard anything back.

They need a number of RSOs per bench
