Interference In The 2020 Election
« on: November 01, 2019, 05:46:23 AM »
I just had a thought this morning. The MSM has been claiming that President Trump is interfering in the 2020 election by asking Ukraine to investigate the Quid Pro Quo revolving around Joe Biden here: https://www.wsj.com/video/opinion-joe-biden-forced-ukraine-to-fire-prosecutor-for-aid-money/C1C51BB8-3988-4070-869F-CAD3CA0E81D8.html

But here is my question for discussion. Isn’t the position that Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are taking stating they want President Trump impeached interfering in the 2020 election? IMO just stating they want to impeach Trump is an attempt to change the results of the 2020 election. What do the rest of you think?

The impeachment proceedings are nothing more than an attempt to get Trump out of the White House through non-democratic and unconstitutional means.

Impeachment is for CRIMES committed by a president, not as a substitute for a legitimate election.

There's a reason there have only been 2 other presidents impeached in the history of our nation -- 3 if you count the inevitable impeachment of Nixon which never had the chance before he resigned.

The reason is because Presidents are elected by the people.  Removing a president goes against the results of that election.  The deeds have to be so over-the-top illegal that they undermine our trust in the president and his ability to execute the responsibilities of his office.

EVEN IF it was proven Trump was targeting Biden via Ukraine to eliminate him as a 2020 opponent, does that even have a criminal statute associated with it?  The closest Schiff can come is "abuse of power," but since the money to Ukraine was not withheld contingent on some investigation being announced, I see no relationship between the two.

This all goes back to 2016.  Ever wonder why Joe was so reluctant to announce he was running?  I wonder if the fact Trump was not being impeached over Russia-gate 1.0 changed his mind?  If Trump gets to the bottom of the 2016 election interference, I have to wonder, since most of the interference seemed to originate in Ukraine, how many of Biden's fingerprints would he find?  Becoming a candidate was a good way to cast aspersions on any criminal allegations from the Trump administration.

As for timing, all this is happening AFTER the Mueller Report.  Until then, Trump had his hands tied as to any Ukraine or other 2016 election related investigating.  He had to wait for Mueller to finish and get out of the way, or be accused of obstructing.

Everyone likes to argue each of Trump's decisions in a vacuum.  In reality, these actions are all part of a much bigger picture -- one which the artists are frightened Trump will piece together and use to send many of them to prison.

No.
Running for office doesn't give one immunity from a constitutionally proscribed process. Would cops not be allowed to investigate a political candidate because being arrested, indicted, or put in prison would interfere with their chance at election? Of course not.

By that logic, any negative news would be considered interference.

What if one of those cops, prosecutors or the judge was also running for the same office as the target of the investigation?  Courts count on a certain degree of impartiality between them and the suspect.

Look at the people in the FBI who investigated Trump's campaign.  They were sending emails and texts espousing their disdain for Trump and opposing his presidency.  We all see how that sham of an investigation turned out.

We have many agencies that can do investigations.  Why can't those with close proximity to the players calling for the investigation not recuse themselves in favor of an independent investigator.

We have bipartisan Congressional investigations and independent counsel provisions for that very reason.

If Trump is guilty of interference, then the entire FBI, DOJ, CIA/Intelligence and WH under Obama are guilty of the same by investigating the Trump campaign prior to the election.

If a cop, judge, or prosecutor had a conflict of interest such as running for the same office then they would be expected to recuse themselves. Is anyone running for president in 2020 currently on the committee holding the impeachment inquiry though?

Using a tool like impeachment isn't interfering with an election.

;Really?  So, why didn't Comey recuse himself from the Cinton Email "matter?"  More importantly, why was the investigation MOVED from the FBI field office where Hillary lived -- where it should have been investigated -- to the USAG/DOJ level?

When you want to cover up the crimes of a person, it's easier when you are running the investigation.

How can anyone trust an investigation outcome dealing with Hillary when the agency running it answered to the Obama WH?

When the impeachment has been screamed for by those in charge of it now ever since Nov 2016, you have to blind or totally ignorant to believe this is anything to do with impeachable crimes and everything to do with unseating Trump either before or in the 2020 election.

This is the member of Congress who's proposed articles of impeachment on Trump THREE TIMES, including the one being considered for inquiry.

No specific crime, just "obstruction," "abuse of power", "Orange Man Bad..."

Yeah, THIS time impeachment IS about interfering in the 2020 presidential election -- my pushing it so the incumbent might be removed before anyone has a chance to vote for him.

How would you expect a recusal to work in this situation? It is the job of the House to vote for impeachment, no one else can do that for them and if everyone with a bias recused themselves then who would be left that could do anything? How many people you gonna find in the House who don't have any strong feelings about Trump one way or the other?

Is impeachment interfering in the 2020 election? Ok, sure, technically it could be called interfering with an election because it might affect some voter's minds however it is not illegal interference with the election.
