Police said they answered a call for a suspicious circumstance. When they arrived, they found a man had shot at a group of juveniles several times.

According to sources, when a homeowner returned to his property, he apparently found that the house was broken into and opened fire.

Saw a different report this morning.  The one I saw (maybe KHON) reported that EMS found "the juvenile" dead when they arrived.  HNN's report mentions that they rushed "the juvenile" to the hospital.  Awesome reporting. . . :facepalm:

Like many incidents, need more detail. 

There's lots to be known yet.  Some reporting it was an off duty cop who did all the shooting and he took his badge/gun off to fight the group of kids.  Another is saying it was a guy who lived next door (non-housing) and shot at the kids who were sitting on the wall, then a cop showed up and started shooting at them also.

So the group was “asked to leave” and returned. Still light on the details, but if the shooter was shooting at the juveniles outside the house, then justification gets deeper/cloudier.

There have been articles about public housing developments being run by gangs, mostly young men.  They hang out, drink, do drugs, and get into everyone's spaces.

Don't know if that was happening in this case.  Given the history of public housing's problems, it would be highly probable.

Reading the comments on social media pages, most support the homeowner. A few moms who think its bad (emotional). Anx a few who sound like they get priors and say "like you never break the law when you was young".

When I was young, I knew not to break the law in places where the Cops have already been called.  Things will only escalate.

Yup, once he left his residence, the threat is gone.  But hope he has a good lawyer and argues "in the heat of the moment for the 3rd time that night".  That's why it's important to review/have your plan.

From a tactical point, when he left his home, what if there was more waiting outside with a real gun?  He just lost his advantage of being indoors.  Like that vid of the guy in CO.  Someone was trying to kick is door in, he grabbed his AR and the bad guy ran.  But his room mate immediately chased him out the door.

Check out the comments on HNN’s FB page for this article. It was posted about 8 hours ago. Seems like things are only going to get worse in that area. I’m surprised some of those comments haven’t been taken down yet.

Imagine the neighbors standing around clutching their pearls or trying to get some cell phone video while these kids are shooting bb guns at the guy, only to turn around and rat him out to the cops because he successfully defended himself. Not to say that is how it went down but there are plenty of those types of people out there.

How do they expect to get a fair trial with all these details out in the media? There is no more jury pool. Everybody on this island has already made up their mind how they feel about it one way or the other.
