Who has consignments? Birdshot?
« on: November 12, 2019, 09:45:34 AM »
I’m off today to see the doctor.  If I finish early, I was going to look at consignments for a used shotgun.  My girls and their boyfriends will be here for the holidays and I’m planning to take them to the range

I know these shops have consignments:
Ogc
Kaneohe Gun Shop
Danger Close
Security

Any other shops I should look at?

Also, Kaleo Arms couldn’t find birdshot so I need to find some.  Any shops with decent prices?

Thank you!

Wassup...
What is your budget? Semi auto, pump side side or O/U?
You can pick up some nice Turkish scatter guns for a really good price. If you google Steven model 555 (O/U) in 12ga they can be had for about $600. I have one as a “guest gun” and have put about 2K trap rounds thru it. Sure probably will start to loosen up at the 10-12k mark but if you’re gonna hunt with it and do some practice at the range then you’re good to go. Go online and type in buds gun shop. They are very reasonable and pretty good getting to gun to your FFL. I’ve used them for better than 20 years and have no complaints. Others you can look at are CZ and Tristar. If trap is going to be your main game then the price for a better built gun will increase.
Here’s a link to buds and the Savage Stevens 555:

Hi Gil,
Security didn’t have any used 12ga shotguns.

I’m now thinking of getting a Howa shotgun.  More out of curiosity than anything.

I read howa made the s&w 3000 (Rem 870 clone) and it was just as good (some felt it was better than the 870).

Howa puma is marine grade and about $200 total with shipping and ffl.  Way less than a marine grade 870.

I have a hunch that the Howa puma is basically still the sw 3000 / rem 870

Or I may get the LSI (Howa) Pointer semi.  About 380 after shipping and ffl.  I suspect it is an updated s&w 1000 / mossberg 1000

I’m a little leery of the Turkish shotguns.  If I’m gambling, my money is on the Japanese

Don’t sell the Turkish shotguns short... sure there are some that are junk but there are a lot that are not.....
There are trapshooters here that have over 15000 rounds thru their Tristar trap guns and all without a hiccup. I had a Tristar semi auto that I put close to 10k thru it without any problems. I gave it to my son in law in Kali who loves bird hunting and trap and has probably put another 3k on it! Sure Remingtons, Winchester’s, are good guns but you’ll pay a price for em. beretta is great but command top $$ as does Benelli. Brownings are made by Miroku Japan (as are some Winchester’s) and are probably the best bang for the buck. I shoot a Citori 725 Trap left hand and I also have a Cynergy as my skeet, five stand and bird gun. Built like a tank nut the two combined set me back about $5000.
It all depends what game or purpose you’re gonna play.....
The LSI pointer looks like a nice scatter gun.... did you know it’s made in Turkey? Looks a lot like the Tristar semi autos.... you should be real happy with it..... :shaka:

Hi Gil
I think the 2019 LSI Pointers are now made by Howa.  I believe the prior Pointers were Turkish.

I picked up an old Winchester Super X model 1. I need to put in a new buffer.  When I get a new buffer, I hope it is as good as claimed because I’m a crappy shooter and need all the help I can get.

I don’t know much about shotguns so for now I’ll hedge my bets and try the Howa.

Good to know the Tristars are workhorses

Thanks, Tim

Hi Gil
You were right.  Legacy brings in Turkish shotguns.  A bunch of websites have the shotguns listed as Howas.

I communicated with Legacy and it sounded like their distributor channels got some info mixed up.  If Legacy listed the Turkish maker on their website it could have avoided the error.

I notified Buds of the error but they still shipped the “Howa” shotguns.  I notified KM Concepts to send it back.

Buds still hasn’t corrected their website.
