What is the skinny on a record as a Juvenile with regards a permit to acquire.?
Got a kid at work that had some issues as a juvenile, but has really cleaned up his act
and is interested in getting into shooting.

Thanx in advance

Need more details.

"Some issues " can be anything from smoking pot to being an MS-13 member.

The standard answer is: it doesn't hurt to apply.  Start with the long gun permit.  It doesn't require firearm serial numbers or any training classes.

That'll provide a definitive answer versus forum members speculating on the outcome.  It'll also avoid plastering potentially embarrassing personal information here.

There are certain juvenile things which can carry over such as a juvie charged as an adult and possibly if the juvie was found not fit to stand trial because of a sanity issue.

But as for the more regular juvenile convictions I don't really know but it is a good question. Juvie records are not public but the police can see them. I don't know if they check them or not but if they did I don't know whether they can hold it against the person in most cases.

I would like to know what the answer is so if the guy at work gets an answer please come back and share it.

I think this guy might have had a felony conviction as a juvenile, but don't know all the circumstances.
Know his family, he ran with a pretty rough crowd but has since cleaned right up well enough to get a TWIC and Seaman's credential.
