Last promo Spartan Armor had, they honored free shipping to HI.  THey used a flat rate USPS box and it was heavy and busting at the seams.  Told my coworker I ordered a mold and powder materials to make my own bowling ball.

you mentioned that you were considering ceramic plates.  if you decide on those, then you might want to consider the potential damage to the ceramic that can occur during shipping/handling.  any kind of micro cracks in the ceramic will decrease the efficacy and life of the plate.

Is there any way to inspect the plate for said damage?  My last order was steel, so their handling of ceramics might be different. IDK.

*edit, went on line and Spartan Armor says cermanics should be xrays annual to look for any cracks.  Maybe when I see my chiro, I'll bring my plates.

Going to have some plates made out of this.  I've been told from a reliable source it resists light sabers and is impervious to blasters.  Should hold up well against green tips.  This is the way.

I have rebranded Hesco 4400 level 4, RMA 1155 level 4. For novelty/project I have a pair of surplus Mile Dragic level 3 polyethylene plates I got off eBay for cheap, and a pair of these SiC multicurve strike faces that I hope one day to laminate it with UHMWPE or some kind of backer.

I highly recommend avoiding steel armor plates unless you’re using it for training and working out. Ceramic is the way to go and they’re affordable and well worth spending to save your life.

You can X-ray them. Otherwise cracks on ceramic plates usually require way more force than you’d expect, and if a plate does happen to have a crack it won’t really compromise the performance of the plate that much.

“It was found that all batches of plates assessed as A1 condition exceeded the ballistic specification by at least 15% and even when severely cracked the ballistic performance remained at least 10% above specification. No evidence was found of any construction effects, defects or deterioration due to age that resulted in a reduction in ballistic performance “ (a case study in the 23rd International Symposion on Ballistics, 2007).
