They have the Haley thorntail mounts in stock at security equipment. I picked up a dropwing yesterday and mounted it on the us palm AK rail top cover with my mini scout. Came out great. Perfect light position, and no need to change your grip to operate the light.

Awesome!  Thanks for the heads up.  I'll have to swing by SEC to check it out.

I think the thorntail will work well and I like that you don't (or shouldn't) need to change your grip and that the attachment is further back than most light mounts.

Stopped by SEC yesterday and picked up a Thorntail.  The ring interferes with the flip up sight on one of my guns when I tried to mount the clip on the top rail.  I have handguards on the side rails, but I think I may take that off and go to something like the ladders or the Larue clips.  I have another gun with a FSP that the Thorntail would work on as well, but it's currently on it's way back to BCM for inspection.  It's a solid mount though for sure.

I hear you on clearance,I have ladders on most of my guns, I like the lower profile compared to handgaurds or the magpul rail covers. Always wanted to try the Larue clips, but I never seen any locally. So far ive gotta say the Haley mount is holding up very well.

I have all ladders on my BCM, which I wanted to keep as light as possible.  The Thorntail fits just fine with the FSP on that gun.  Another gun that I was thinking of putting the Thorntail on has Troy rail covers and Troy flip-up sights.  The Thorntail would fit ok if secured on the top rail, but it would obstruct the button to put the sights back down.   >:(

I could mount it on the 9 o'clock rail, but then I'd have to go will all ladders or the Larue clips since that's where the Troy rail covers currently are.  I'll decide after I get my BCM back after I send it off to them for another issue.

For handguns i would only go surefire x300 and viridian x5l gen 2.
For rifles, i don't own any lights for them yet  ::)  but i'm planning on getting either a surefire scout M300 or M600 when they release the new versions that are 500 lumens or maybe a surefire RAID.  I own 3 ar's and an arsenal AK and need to get one for each lol  O0

I have a 4sevens aa turbo in an Elzetta mount for the hd shotty. Great light for the price but the UI is a little weird. Wanted something that takes AA batteries so I can solar recharge on hiking trips. I'm going to get another one from 4sevens, but maybe a different kind since you can swap parts out between them.

surefire LED (i think G2) on an Elzetta mount on my remington 870
viridian x5l gen2 on my P30

i highly recommend the viridian and the elzetta mount
any standard size flashlight will go in the elzetta
i think if i had to do it over again, i would get a light with higher lumens for my 870

don't know about the lumens, but i think i have the lower of the G2 range surefires
i think out of the 3 patterns shown, i would choose the middle
if you have a narrow middle beam, it can act somewhat like a laser on a handgun
you can see how the pattern matches the middle beam at different distances and use it as an aiming point

What would you consider ideal amount of lumens for the 870?

I was all over the place with regard to what I wanted in a weapon lights but these diagrams and corresponding definitions helped narrow down my options.

“Lumens” of a bulb is a measurement of the entire output of the bulb. (Focus is not considered.)
“Lumens” of LEDs is a measurement of all the light inside the “beam angle”.
“Peak beam candlepower” is a measure of the brightest spot in a focused beam.

As my 870 will primarily used as my "go-to" for HD, I figured the TLR-1 HL (C4 LED that is supposedly impervious to shock; 12, 000 candela peak beam intensity and up to 630 lumens; a TIR optic that produces a concentrated beam with optimum peripheral illumination; and a $129.00 price tag!!), I figured that I could buy one to test and see if it was a worthwhile light.

Could also attach it to the G19 or SAR or anything with a picatinny/1913 rail, if necessary.

I guess I'll just have to wait 10 more days for the damn thing to ship!!  :grrr:

Still interested to hear/see what others are using, too.

For my Colt 6940:  Streamlight TLR-1S w/KZ mount (Center/Front of Sight)
For my primary HD pistol (G30):  Veridian C5L Laser/LED Light (Zombie Edition!!)   >:D
For my Mossberg 590:  Fenix TK-11

I think this depends on where/how you intend on using the shotgun.

Me personally?

HD positive target identification, only.

HD I think anything from 60 lumens up would be OK.  Something to think about though is in a small enclosed environment with the potential for backsplash from light, you probably want to cap the light output, so personally for me I say 200 lumens max.  The 500 lumens lights now are overkill indoors.
