Postings of crime and gun crimes slowing down???
« on: December 30, 2019, 09:36:21 AM »
Either stuff doesn't happen as often as it used to for the past few months due to the holidays, or someone called the news and told them to not report the stories.

I don't see as much postings on either news pages or on SSH.

Maybe people are busy to be posting on SSH? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve actually seen more reports of attacks on elderly and other purse snatching type things.

And maybe criminals have parties to go to as well. 🤔

But IF it was a conspiracy, to what end? That’s becoming a very packed grassy knoll.

Seems like it was "simple" purse snatching before, but have started seeing more reports of guns being used in recent robberies (at least one of the articles Jl808 posted).  Things escalating. . .

I shop at Don Quijote here and there and I always see elderly by themselves loading up their car in the parking lot, especially in the covered parking structure.  When I see that, I find myself looking around to see what or who else is around.  Gotta keep an eye out for them.

Why? It's a virtual certainty that the little old lady you're looking out for doesn't want you to be armed; why risk yourself on her behalf when she doesn't even want you to?

DQ could hire somebody to sit on the roof in an overwatch position. It's not a large parking lot.

I go there too.  at least every other week.  that parking structure would be my first guess for a robbery to take place.  I usually park on the roof.  situational awareness is always my first option wherever I am, especially in a dark parking lot.  that area around Kapiolani/keeaumoku get a lot of questionable suspects.  or any neighborhood nowadays.  my friends lives upscale diamondhead and another friend in kahala, and their neighborhood gets robberies and home invasions probably more than my neighborhood in kaimuki

Why?  Because I care about the elderly, especially them being targeted.  No one said anything about being armed.  No one said putting myself at risk.  IMO, having a someone who isn't "as easy a target" in the area would serve as a deterrent.  From what I've seen of recent incidents, the attackers picked out elderly out either alone, without any else in the area.  Something I choose to do. . .

In today's MODERN COMMERCIAL UNIVERSE, with crimes and accidents a daily reality, one would assume businesses would install cameras and hire security staff to monitor them as Standard Operating Procedure.

Accidents, insurance scams, shoplifting, theft/damage by employees, robbery, and a whole host of other events are much easier to deter and resolve when someone is watching and recording the site on video surveillance..

You'd think as often as Hawaii's population visit's Vegas casinos they'd understand the benefits of wall-to-wall surveillance.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I'm a fan of letting people have what they want, which in this case is a population of sheep unequipped to look out for each other. Sure, the presence of someone who looks capable of handling himself might deter a criminal, but it might just add another victim to the tally. To each their own, though. Do what makes you happy.
