They mail it to you now after a few months.

No, he had it correct.  You have a choice of either applying in personOR mailing in your application packet and picking it up in person.  You have to appear at the issuing law enforcement office one way or another.

So, if you applied in person, they will mail it as you said.  BUT, if you mailed in the application, they won't mail the permit.  You'll have to go get it.

I'm surprised there's that many Nevada permits.  Did you guys get them before Nevada had reciprocity?

I went to Front Sight's Defensive Handgun 5-day class.  They offered NV, UT, FL and AZ CCW application assistance.  If you have another state you want to apply to, they'll provide as much information/paperwork as they can to help you.

The FS instructors walked everyone through each form line-by-line.  Hard to make a mistake.  FS also provided photos of you they took, electronic and physical fingerprinting, notary service and signed forms as the qualified training providers for states requiring a certification.

The last half-day of the course was spent taking the live fire qualification test and filling out forms.  The NV live fire test was 30 rounds at distances of 3, 5 and 7 yards -- 10 rds each.  30 rds @ 10 pts max = 300 max total score.  You need 230 to pass.  There's also a written test that's super easy.  The instructor has to be certified to give NV qualification training.

If you are catching a flight that afternoon/evening, you can finish the paperwork by noon and race to the Sheriff's office to submit your application that same day.  If you apply in person, they will mail your permit to you.  If you mail your application in, you will have to pick it up in person.

For renewal, there is no written test, and the renewal course is only 4 hours long -- half that of the initial firearms qualification course.  You still need to do the live fire qualification test, and submit the renewal in the same county's law enforcement office where the permit was issued.

Since Front Sight is in Nye County, I applied at the Nye County Sheriff's Department.  From their website:

Quote
You must take the renewal course in person in the state of Nevada.

The application fee for renewal is $61.25. If you submit the application to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office after the expiration date on
your current permit but before 120 days after expiration there will be a $15.00 late fee. If the application is submitted after 120 days,
the fee will be the same as an initial application ($96.25).

Your renewal application cannot be submitted over 120 days prior to the expiration date of your current  permit. An application
is valid for one year from the date you took the course. The establishment where you take the course will have the application and
instructions for the course.

Las Vegas Police Dept has their own website:

https://www.lvmpd.com/en-us/RecordsFingerprintBureau/Pages/ConcealedFirearms-FAQs.aspx

Nevada CCW permits are valid for 5 years after approval.  That means, if you mailed in your application and took a month to go pick up the permit in person (as required), your permit will have a 4 year & 11 month expiration period.

That tells me if my permit is about to expire, it's Vegas time, baby!!    :geekdanc:

I'll check the reciprocity maps again before I renew.  If my other permits cover the states I expect to travel in, I'll let that one lapse.

+1 on Nye county if you can.  I spent 3 hours waiting in line at Clark County because they also do checks for casino workers.

I went to the metro closest to the strip.  We were in and out in 20 mins.  There were about 50 people in the waiting area ahead of us.  They had about 10 windows to process paperwork.  5 printing stations and 5 picture stations. I was very surprised at their efficiency.  Compared to here at HPD, takes me 40 mins to apply for a permit with 1 guy in line head of me.  I t hought for sure we would be there all day. But nope, very very very quick.

Theres a gun bunny who has 1 also.  I don't remember her name, but she posted a pic of her lifting her shirt slightly to show her AIWB on the subway stairs (no one was around).  She also posted the letter she had to send with the application.

HI

carry only in your home or place of work.
You forgot "or place of sojourn"
by definition
: a temporary stay.
I suppose a tent on the lawn of the capitol would qualify.
but with Oahu HPD I wouldn't tempt them,  they are very quick
on the trigger.
My HPD wouldn't show up before you could leave.
