What a depressing movie. I guess it's good and celebrated is because of its theme of mental illness which the Joker provides a vehicle for. Along with themes of "gun violence" and class inequality. I hope the actors realize that they are the hypocrites as well. <thumbs down>

Joaquin Phoenix had a similar perspective as Phillips’: “Well, I think that, for most of us, you're able to tell the difference between right and wrong. And those that aren't are capable of interpreting anything in the way that they may want to. People misinterpret lyrics from songs. They misinterpret passages from books. So I don't think it's the responsibility of a filmmaker to teach the audience morality or the difference between right or wrong. I mean, to me, I think that that's obvious.”

Phoenix then expanded on the idea of what could “fuel” someone towards an act of violence. “I think if you have somebody that has that level of emotional disturbance, they can find fuel anywhere. I just don't think that you can function that way,” he said.

Wonderfully acted but it was just a remake of Taxi Driver.

"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

I too thought it was a well made movie and it appears to have one of the few movies that portrays mental illness in an accurate way.

To wren's comments, it begs the question of whether there are stories or ideas that are too dangerous to be told. Are there stories, whether real or fiction, which carry too much a risk of a copy cat or inspiring someone to do something bad? I am of the mind that a story should not be censored but recognize the risk may exist from certain stories.

Joker has surpassed the $1B mark, making it the most successful R-rated movie opening in cinematic history.

This, in spite of the main stream media's campaign to destroy it.  The movie frames the MSM as a villain from a certain perspective, as the news and The Murray Show take some of the blame for shaping and creating the killer Joker becomes.

Notice the close resemblance of the show's title to The Maury Show.  I don't think that's by accident.

The MSM needed Joker to fail, or at a minimum to spark another Aurora shooting in a theater.  Instead, Joker has been nominated for 11 Oscar categories.

People need to see the movie with a somewhat introspective vantage point, and not just a desire for entertainment.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

It really seems to portray most of society as the villain.

Honest Trailers did a really good run down. I especially like their comparison of the overall themes of the other Batman movies from different decades.
