Bloomberg is in AZ campaigning for more charter schools, using his successful use of them in NY as a foundation.

It's a very important issue for AZ voters.

It's an interesting situation, since almost every Democrat politician is against charter schools which diverts taxpayer funds from public schools (read: teachers' unions).

This is interesting because AZ doesn’t have the problem in public schools to the same degree that NYC did/does. Therefore the need for Charter Schools is not as great in AZ. I don’t remember which state just dumped common core but I believe this will be the start of a trend which will benefit our public schools eventually. I know the area to which I am moving in AZ has public schools with excellent credentials/results. I know this is not applicable across the state but could be used as a model across the state.

From a year ago:

From the AZ Charter Schools website:

Quote
The Arizona State Board for Charter Schools (“Board”) was created through legislation in 1994 to grant charter
status to qualifying applicants and to oversee charter schools. Charter schools are public, state-funded schools
that operate under a charter contract with a charter school sponsor or authorizer. The Board, which oversees
more than 500 charter schools throughout the state, is the largest charter school authorizer in Arizona and,
according to the National Association for Charter School Authorizers, is the nation’s largest independent state
authorizer.
