Some of you may have heard about these cases, but it is food for thought.

I don't own an AR platform.  Too easy to choke you guys off by limiting the Ammo.
I'm a 7.62mm guy  I can buy or smuggle ammo from any where in the world.
The rule on AR lowers always was and continues to be BS.
The problem us law obedient guys have, is we can't afford the time and money to
challenge the Democrats and beat them in court, so we just
submit.
Hawaii Democrats are on a roll these days.
Aloha.

There are at least 56 different AR upper compatible calibers that have been developed not including the AR10 stuff.   You can certainly get an ar15 upper in 7.62mm.   Plus there are pop can cannons, grapling hooks, black powder muzzle loaders, shotguns, and even a crossbow that fits on an AR15 reciever.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AR_platform_calibers

Ar15 is the most versatile receiver ever developed.   They want ban .223 well then they need to ban ~60 other types as well.

Here is my son's 50bmg upper sitting on a single shot AR15 80% receiver.  Luckily it is with him in a free state.

You are quite correct.
I was concentrating on 5.56 X 45 mm.
My other concern would bore most readers.
I prefer piston actuated vs gas direct.
I know they make a piston AR.
An AK is a lot easier to clean than an M16.

Clean an AK?   what's that?

I thought that when you finished shooting an AK you throw it in the dirt and it gets stronger

In another state,
I have ammo from Chinese factory 13
dated 1967.
Corrosive Berdan primed.
Tuna tinned.
You do need to clean it once in a while.
