One hour left to submit timely testimony on HB2292 electric gun garbage (Read 3205 times)

punaperson

The lame deceitful attempt to subvert the unanimous per curiam by SCOTUS in  Caetano by moving from an obviously unconstitutional all out ban, to a near ban with heavily restrictive fees and repetitive training requirements on sellers and possessors. Duplicitous criminal bullshit...er... i mean... "commonsense gun safety regulations".

[Same testimony as written previously for SB2848 would be appropriate.]

This one mostly has restrictions on the sellers side treating a Taser like an Firearm to the point where stores won't bother selling it.  On the buyers side, the biggest thing is only the owner can use it, no one (including a spouse) can possess it.  Also you probably won't be able to take it out in public.  And the usual prohibitions on who can own one like for firearms.

The SB2437 one will give you a seizure reading it:  https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=SB&billnumber=2437&year=2020

They left out the requirement that you have to wipe your butt every day at 6:57a.m. or your permit will be automatically revoked.

Seriously? Why even bother writing this up?

Didn’t London have a pending lawsuit about this?  What happened to that?  I would also like to see the JPX Jet Protector get legalized to carry.
You can get 4 shots instead of just one like a Taser.  Most times you will be facing two or more assailants, unless you are elderly or a woman.

Lawsuit keeps getting delayed.  Likely so the legislature can pass a bill to legalize them.  HIFICO is opposing all electric guns bills that have a lot of regulations and restrictions on them, except for Gabbards bill which has a clean ban repeal.

I appreciate all your efforts
If I understand this, this bill was passed to appease a pending lawsuit in the 9th about CCW? And that lawsuit was from a Big Island resident? If so, we lost the long term goal

This was to address London's lawsuit in Federal district court which has precident in SCOTUS.  This bill passing could render the lawsuit moot.  Though all the restrictions, like not being able to carry in public, could keep the lawsuit going.

Opponents say that London winning his lawsuit will set a precedent to add support for Young's case.  Gotta ask London about that.

FYI when writing testimony for stuff like CCW and legalizing tasers.  You can oppose the bill, but next to it put you support CCW or whatever but oppose the heavy restrictions on it.

Or else it looks like you're opposed to CCW and Electric Guns.

The PVM meeting on HB2292 was scheduled for 10 AM today. It's now almost 1 PM. The website for that bill shows "No testimony available at this time."

Is that an error? Is it only the public that has no access to the testimony or did the committee members also have no access before they discussed and voted?

Don't get me wrong, I know that no amount of testimony of any quality would sway the ideologue gun grabbers, just wondering if the system even works to the extent of having the testimony show up...
