FN SCAR vs POF Revolution
« on: February 26, 2020, 11:42:28 AM »
I've never shot either before, so I have to real opinion on which one is better
both are pretty expensive.  POF is 2690 MSRP, SCAR is 3569
anyone have either of these rifles and has an opinion on which one is better?

Both too expensive for me, both the gun itself and the ammo to enjoy shooting them. . .  :(

That said, I've actually shot both.  I've shot the SCAR 17 quite a bit in both the SSF and a friend's.  I didn't really notice the dip that the video mentioned, but the reciprocating bolt/mass is noticeable.  And it's noticeably hard on optics.  I've seen red dot optic mounts come loose and even the screws sheared off.  I've heard of them beating up quality scopes as well (Vortex and Leupold).  I believe the wait times on the SCAR can be rediculous as well.

I've shot another friend's POF 308 (not sure if it was the Revolution), around 20 rounds.  To me it's just another AR10, or at least nothing that stood out to me a special.

If I were to get a semi-auto in 308, I'd get an Knight's Armament SR 25. . . (yup, I'm dreaming. . .)

Never shot the SCAR 17 but I do own the Revolution DI. The muzzle brake and the adjustable gas system honestly makes it feel like I'm shooting a 5.56 with a carbine length gas tube. Very soft recoiling, pretty crazy.

The only other 7.62 I can compare it to is my father in laws SIG 716, which uses a shorter gas tube and no brake on it. It definitely punches slightly harder than the Revolution.

My only complaint is because of the E2 chamber I only get about 3 to 4 reloads with my 7.62 brass before the neck splits. If you don't reload this isn't a problem.

I have the scar 17s and love it. Ive only had a Vortex Razor gen II 1-6 on it with zero issues, but have heard of lower budget scopes taking a beating. Theres a channel on YT called Kentucky Arsenal, they claim the POF is a better gun and made a video describing why. I think you would probably be fine either way if a deal came along. Theres been a few scars pop up in here, one for 2200 if I recall about a year ago. Maybe one Revolution has come up. I really like the scar but the buy in is steep, and it doesnt stop there. The stock trigger is crap, the geissele upgrade is 375 last I checked. Extra mags are now $45? I think. Would love to hear from an objective POF owner as the Revolution has peaked my interest as well.
