Senate Floor Vote 3-3-2020

Email and Call by 3-3-2020 1130am
Please contact your district Senator's via email or phone for Tuesday's 11:30am floor vote (3rd reading) to oppose the bills below.  It's very unlikely that we could win, but we need to develop our connection with them and find out who our reliable no votes are.

SB 2519 - Over 10 round magazine ban with grandfathering, no registration effective upon signing.
SB 2635 - Ammo purchase verification, must show firearm registration forms, bans possession by others, allows for registration of multi-calibers and designate 2nd person.
SB 3054 - Notify PD if firearms are moved out of state, includes $250 penalty per gun.

Attend
If you're free this Tuesday, please attend the floor vote in the Senate Chambers (ground level) at 11:30am.  Very unlikely we'll win the vote, however I'd like a small group to support the "No" votes and have a reliable presence there.  Also meet your Senator before or after the vote.  Please do not take the day off work or cancel important appointments for this.  Please reply if you're able to make it.

Called this AM.
It is a waste of time, but I called.
Local man answered the phone as he recognized
my phone number area without looking it up.
Small island population.
We know where our Congress, Legislature, council critters,
and Cops live and shop.

Called submitted my statement on why to vote against.

It’s an uphill battle here folks. While I am not one to give up, if you would like to continue exercising your rights in general I recommend  searching for another state to call home.  I will miss the warm water and year round surf, as well as the food and culture terribly, but the fifth and now sixth generations of my family will likely move and live elsewhere, some place where our constitutional rights are more respected.

Besides the 2a infringements, the cost of living is also a huge factor.  I have friends who moved away and got paid less.  But because they spend less, it's not an issue.  They are way happier now.  If it weren't for my job, we would move.  The wife is OK with it.

Funny I’m in the same boat. Cost of living is a huge factor. Perhaps I should start a new thread in a different forum to get the ideas going.

In regards to SB2635 the ammo bill

Quote
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Mayor of Hawai‘i County, Honolulu Police Department, and one individual.  Your Committee received testimony in opposition to this measure from the Kaua‘i Police Department; Pu‘uloa Rifle and Pistol Club; Hawaii Cattlemen's Council, Inc.; Hawaii Rifle Association; Hawaii Firearms Coalition; and thirty-six individuals.  Your Committee received comments on this measure from Bushido Arms and Ammunition, LLC.

I guess the former Vegas Captain has one in the W column as a 2A supporter

Mrs Barrels always wanted to move to Kauai. Unfortunately no trust fund money so we are still working out the details.

It was written by the former acting police chief with nothing written in the comments.  It could be his personal testimony.  I dunno.

I was trying to get KPD to write opposition to the bills but had to rethink it after HPDs publicity stunt.  Perhaps it's better for the PD to stay out of it either way.

Emailed and got a response from Sen Kidani.
She said she will vote in favor of the bill because of HPD and those that favor the bill. She also said the grandfathering clause is there. She did not respond to the other bills specifically but said because "HPD supports it"

Emailed senator Kidani and got a response from her saying she will vote yes. She sites the amount of supposed “email support” and HPD as her reason for voting yes.

Problem is so many people in Hawaii don’t know enough about how our government works (including me). These politicians run unopposed with no accountability because the people here are so clueless. Very frustrating.
