Haven’t posted in awhile but have been following the forums and trying pitch in politically where I can.  I posted this thread given the most recent political events here (look at Virginia how they had a huge uphill battle recently). 

Recent article in the paper states 1 in 4 Hawaii residents leaving by 2020, citing cost of living, leadership (what leadership?), and governance as the chief reasons for leaving.

I’m using sites like the above on picking a new residence.

2A of course is hugely important, as well as cost of living and other rights. Would love to have mountains and rivers at least. Ideally a place where I can get 5-20 acres and a home for less than $500k and be 30 minutes outside of a major city by car. Idaho and NH are at the top of my list so far.  NH chiefly because it’s less than a days drive from my other half’s family.

moved to vegas(Henderson area) last year. love it here. cheap! desert range in sloan is 20 minutes from my house. homes are still pretty inexpensive but, going up. traffic is good (although locals say it's getting bad) and everything I need is within 4-5 miles of me. can't complain about anything except property taxes are a bit higher and car insurance is more. with all the hawaii people here, I feel like I never left. maybe the summer heat will change my mind.......

Thats the good thing about vegas. If u ever miss hawaii, can easily find the people and food.

Problem is those asshole from CA coming in and bringing their problems with them.

I’m moving the end of the month to Prescott Valley, AZ. Right next door to Prescott, AZ. Kinda the best of both worlds. Prescott has a population of around 40,000. It has a very long and colorful history including being the Opium center of Arizona back in the 1800’s. Prescott has all the nice amenities (Restaurants, small town look and feel, craft breweries, Costco) and Prescott Valley is the suburbs 10 minutes away with better home prices. Home prices from mid to high 200s up to low 300s in most areas for a nice size home on a quarter acre or more. We bought a 3 year old house for $316k, 3 bed/2 bath, almost 1,500 sq ft on a quarter acre. Our backyard is large and over looks the nearby mountains. Even tho our house is in a large subdivision, we are on the outskirts of it and wide open spaces is just a 5 minute or less drive away. Traffic is pretty good tho the locals complain about it getting worse. And we are just a 2 minute drive to the nearest freeway. We are up around 5,000 feet in the mountains. Highs during the summer around 90 to mid 90’s, snows around 2-3 feet during the winter. Given the warmer temps the snow doesn’t stick and is usually gone within a couple of days. We do have a monsoon season where it rains a lot. Average number of days with sunshine is 277/year. Compare that to Hawaii which is close to the same number. Cost of living is around average mainland. It is about an hour and a half to Phoenix if you want to visit the big city. And it is about 3.5 hours to Las Vegas. I am 8 hours to my family in SoCal, 8 hours to my family in Utah. We both have family in Phoenix. No permit required for open and concealed carry in AZ. Even tho you don’t need a permit to CCW it is recommended you get the AZ permit so you can travel with a weapon to the states with reciprocity. There are a bunch of lakes around with good fishing, paddle boarding, you can shoot in most areas outside the city, There are a lot of LGS in both Prescott and Prescott Valley, plus there a local gun show not to mention the big one in Phoenix. Ruger, J&G, Sportsman’s Guide plus a few more biggies in and around Prescott. Surrounding areas there is a lot of exploring and historical things to do since this area is central to Arizona’s and the west’s rich history and there is the Grand Canyon. Never been.

I know coyotes can jump the fence, so I expect it could happen. I pity the poor coyote that ends up in my backyard. I don’t get much practice hitting moving targets. 

A lot of the houses near me have backyards that are wide open to the desert. So I expect they’ll get the coyotes and javelina and snakes more than I will.

I’ll get my AZ CCW after I get there. I need to buy a few holsters.

AZ is con carry.  No need permit to carry concealed or otherwise.

I was in Prescott last October.  I don't think Ruger gives tours of their facility, but don't quote me cause I might be wrong.

That’s disappointing. I remember reading about some people getting a tour. And I remember receiving an offer from Cabela’s to do a tour as part of Cabela’s since I am a cardholder. Oh well, guess I’ll just have to take my brother shooting instead.
