Senate passed a carbon tax on fossil fuels. Rhodes and Gabbard... They're just gonna tax us to death and off the island

One reason I am glad I am leaving the state, even tho this has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make, is because property taxes are going to have to be raised due to rail. Not just to finish building the rail but in order to operate it. Plus I see all the big spending bills going thru our state congress and it is inevitable. Not to mention the sneaky and underhanded ways the state is trying to raise our taxes like the road use tax. The mentioned carbon tax is just another tax that will have to be paid for by raising some tax. My guess is that they will raise the VAT tax instead of property taxes to pay for this one because visitors are seen as part of the problem as well. But with the rail, it is basically going to be used mostly by the population so property taxes make more sense to pay to operate the rail.

One big point for me to move here for retirement is that we have the lowest property tax rate in the nation. The property taxes here are high on Oahu, Maui and Kauai, because the valuations are high. But buy on the Big Island and you’ll pay a low property tax because housing is much cheaper over there. Great for a retiree. But after it became apparent I was not going to move to the Big Island for retirement I considered staying here even tho property taxes are very high. But between my mortgage, property taxes and HOA fees it would take a huge chunk out of my fixed income. Raise the property tax rate and I may not be solvent here any more. And I am convinced the county is going to have to raise property tax rates just to pay for the operation and maintenance of the rail after they start operating it.
SCIENCE THAT CAN’T BE QUESTIONED IS PROPAGANDA!!!

This is beginning to be a reality for a lot of local people. I’ve talked to my wife about moving out of this god forsaken state. I cannot even imagine having to leave Hawaii but it seems to be inevitable. These politicians run wild here with all the useful idiots.

One thing that has given me pause is the coming economic disaster. I know the next recession will be the absolute worst of our life time. When it happens I think I want to be here in a place where I’m comfortable and can survive (regardless of how bad it gets). Just my $.02

I moved here 20 years ago.  I had lived on Guam for a year and a half or so, so I knew
what living on an island with Island people was like. I liked them and the land, didn't
like the super Typhoons.
I'm retired on a fixed income, I'm debt free, own my home and have a "gentlemans farm"
so I will stay here till I die or the government kills me.
I'm really appalled at the laws being passed in Honolulu, but
you guys weren't smart enough to kill off your Democrats.
I can say,  I will use every legal means to cheat this state out of money,
chase off our cops and civil servants with low pay, and make sure your kids can't afford to live here.
I especially do my best to kill off tourism.  Tax it till it dies.
Democrats made their bed, they can lie in it. There is a famous quote,
" If God not meant them to be shorn he would not have made them sheep"
Lots of sheep in Hawaii.
Have a good weekend.

That was one of my plans, " I’m comfortable and can survive (regardless of how bad it gets)".
I'm on the Big Island and some guys here will tell you you can do exactly that.
I don't suggest anybody come here as costs have gone through the roof, but
rural, no Thugs, and city people won't be going house to house for your food.
Cops, FedEx, and UPS stop to ask directions around here.
